4th Annual LARRY'S LIVESTRONG LOOP
Date: October 3, 2009
Time: 8:30am
Location: Central Community Center, Central, AL
Leader: Larry G
Route: Loop; see Remarks
Distance: 25, 40, and 62 mile options
Speed: At each rider's discretion
Terrain: Mix of flats and rollers; two moderate climbs of 3/4 mile each on the 62m route
Remarks:
Please join me on Saturday, October 3, 2009, for the fourth annual edition of Larry's LiveStrong Loop -- a rolling celebration acknowledging those like myself who have survived cancer, and a tribute to those who did not.
We'll begin and end at Central Community Center, about 10 miles northwest of Florence, Alabama (same venue as in 2007 and 2008). Driving directions are posted below.
As in 2008 there will be three distance options, of 25, 40, and 62 miles, with all three routes winding through the scenic, gently rolling countryside of western Lauderdale County. The routes will be fully marked, backed up by detailed cue sheets with turn-by-turn directions.
Pre-ride ceremonies will begin at 8:30am, and all participants are requested to arrive early enough to be ready to go by this time. The 40 and 62 mile groups will roll off at 9:00, followed by the 25 mile group at 9:05. Rest stops will be at country stores along the way. There will also be at least one SAG vehicle patrolling the routes, carrying bottled water and snacks.
Back at the community center following the ride, we'll have ourselves a bodacious BBQ blowout with all the fixin's .. sandwiches heaped as high as you like plus chips, beans, soft drinks and bottled water, and dessert.
You don't have to be a member of Shoals Cycling Club to participate. And there is no charge whatsoever, for either the ride or the meal afterward. A donation of $10 or more, 100% of which will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation, is suggested, but as in past years this will be entirely optional. If you can give a little something -- great. If you can't -- come ride (and eat!) with us anyway. I host this event each fall as a party, not as a fund-raiser. There'll be no hard sell, no passing of the hat.
If you plan to attend, PLEASE send an email to largray@hiwaay.net or rides@shoalscyclingclub.org at your earliest convenience, as we will need to get an accurate head count so we can be sure to have enough food on hand for everyone.
So bring yourself, and bring a friend. Pass the word; everyone is welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday, October 3, and as always -- LiveStrong!
