But Northern Virginia (NoVA) is part of the metropolitan area along with DC and MD.

Theres going to be a border area no matter where they draw the line. If you add all of Virginia to the MidAtlantic then people in Bristol will complain that they are more associated with Tennessee and Kentucky then Maryland and would rather be in the Southeast.

True, but I don't think Bristol can claim to be a major metropolitan area with a population of several million, including several hundred bikeforum members.
