Gosh, thanks for asking about me! Last Wednesday was the first time I got on the recumbent bike at rehab. I was excited at first thinking I was going to "ace" it. The pt told me to take it easy and I thought, "heck, piece of cake". Well, after only 8 minutes I was whipped. By Friday it was somewhat better but I'm really getting discouraged on how tired I get. (My mind says I can do it but the body isn't ready yet.)
I'm walking without the cane around the house but use it out in public. PT says I am doing really well and that my range of motion is good and that it's just a matter of time. I have rehab 3 times this coming week and I think I'm going to attempt to go to the gym and get some extra rehab in. I am hoping that I am going to be able to ride in the Trek Breast Cancer Awareness ride that the Ocala Bicycle Center sponsors on Oct. 9th. This ride was my first "official" ride last year and I really want to do it again this year. I came in last year (I'd only been riding about 3 months) but was happy that I finished AND I went the whole way when others took short cuts. This year it's either 10 or 25 miles and I'm thinking I'll attempt the 10 mile one again. It's really not a race for me but more of a casual ride to benefit a good cause.
I was reading the boards almost every day for awhile but found I was getting discouraged cause I wasn't out there riding. Hubby has been able to get out on his mb almost every day this last week as his work is slow. Yesterday he was at Santos but ended up not finishing his ride to help someone who had issues with their bike.

zzotherlandzz- loved your pictures of the moss man at Gold Branch. Hubby went down that path but not far as it was sandy. Gold Branch was a nice park to ride in.

SloPoke - keep those pictures coming!

Thanks again guys for asking about me. If things go well this week I am hoping that I might "attempt" to go for a short ride next weekend. Not mb but my road bike.

LindaN.. I say 10 minutes on a trainer is like an hour on a bike.... Trainer = NO FUN and tired fast...... Real bike ride = fun and dont notice your tired as fast .... How crowded is Santos during the week or non peak ride times? Just curious, i've thought about going down that way for a long time...

That trail is almost done now... Its gonna be a nice ride for me.... Palatka Lake Butler trail to Keystone then up sr21 on the trail to Golds Head... Nice place to rest.. Should be about 30 miles total... And if i'm feeling good or its nice easy to add more miles up SR21 (nice shoulder/bike path to ride on). Actually planning on a cookout/picnic when it cools down a bit. Friends and I will ride there... the rest can meet us there for the picnic ..

thanks for checking in....

I checked with hubby about Santos. He says that during the week before about 4:00 is a good time to go. Says it starts getting busier after about 4:30 when people get off work to ride. He also says if you go on the weekend to go either early or later in the day. It gets busy after 10 and stays so until about 4. He normally rides from the Trailhead near 441 and the Sheriff's station and heads west. Sometimes he makes it all the way out to the I-75 overpass. When he first started taking me we started at the trailhead on 475A (which is East of I-75) and headed east. I think he thought that was better since it was less traveled and I was new to the mb. He normally does the yellow and blue trails. He only tried the red one once and said that was enough.

Here's the website for the OMBA (Ocala Mountain Bike Assoc) Lots of good info here.
https://omba.org/

This is a map of the complete Santos area. As you can see, it shows going all the way out to 484 and then SR 200. Hubby and I have taken the portion from 49th Ave west to SR 200 and I enjoyed it as I like the "road less traveled" rather than the crowds.

Another place you might like is the Pruitt Trailhead on 484 headed to Dunnellon. The trail can be sandy in places and is shared with horses. But, it's a beautiful area and other than the sandy spot in about the first mile, is mostly shell rock. Here's a picture from months back when we were out there.

Hopefully sometime soon I will be back on my mb. My first goal though is to get on my road bike. Tonight I went to the gym and spent about 20 minutes on the recumbent. Just trying to build up my stamina. I think I am going to try to get hubby to take me out this weekend to the north end of the Withlachochee so I can at least get back on the bike. It's nice and flat and shouldn't be much of a challenge....I hope.

Thanks for the info.... I agree I like the less traveled trails too. Now if I can just con my 2 sometime rider friends to go with me...
I remember you talking about the trail down by Dunnellon. Is that the one where they have the wild pig hunt once a year?
I have only rode the north 10 miles or so of the Withlachochee, spent the day at Rainbow Springs and while the nephew and his friends hung out there I went for a ride It was one of those REALLY hot summer days. Man it felt good to jump in the 67deg springs that day after a ride

I'm betting you will start too feel much better once you get out on the trail
