Anyone interested in doing the Suncoast Trail - 83 miles?
Planning to get a group to do the Suncoast Trail on Sunday, Oct. 10th. Meetup at SR 54/Suncoast trailhead @ 6:30am, roll at 6:45. We have 8 already and the group will possibly double. We might split into 2 speed groups if it gets too large. Won't be a hammerfest - probably a rolling avg of ~20 mph.
If interested or have questions, let me know.

Never mind, I'm an idiot, I found the thread. I'd like to hit this but I just don't know if I'm ready yet for that far of a ride. I think I am, but I haven't tested myself and I don't want to go and hold anyone back, or end up getting dropped and have to sit on my bike riding solo for five and a half hours of boredom.

The start time will be @ 7:00 am - sunrise is 7:27. Parking at trailhead SR54/Suncoast.
The south end of the trail is mostly flat, but the north end, north of SR 50 has some nice rolling hills, nothing too challenging. The Suncoast is a great trail with very few cross streets to slow you down. I think you will enjoy this ride.
If you are able to maintain 18 solo, you should be fine to hang with this group in the paceline. If you're not feeling strong, you will likely be able to hang on without doing any pulls if you're feeling challenged. There will be some stronger riders and a possibility of breaking into 2 speed groups depending on interest. You likely won't get dropped, but even if you do, there is no chance of getting lost since its just an up and back. This would not be a good ride if you have little or no experience in riding in a paceline.
Let me know if your interested or have any questions.

I have a little experience in a paceline, as in like a total of 15 miles. I think I'll hold off. I can keep 18mph decently, but doing it for 80 miles even in a paceline is something that I think I'm going to hold off on until I have done a solo century just to give myself a baseline.

I want to, but 80 miles is a bit over 2x the longest I've ridden. I think I can do it, but I don't want to do it until I KNOW I can do it...

Yes, this is a Grupetto ride. We have about 14 currently planning to come, not including anyone from this thread. I'd suspect we might be up to over 20 by Sunday. If so, we might consider breaking into 2 speed groups.
We plan to meetup @ 6:45 and roll out no later than 7am on Sunday. If the parking at Suncoast/54 is full you can park across the street in the Target lot and ride over to the picnic table area.
Any other takers besides Avanti73 (+1) Psychlist?
Cheers,
Dennis

With the wind today I could barely average 16.5mph on a short 30 mile ride including the beach bridges. I really don't think I'm ready for it. I'll be there in a couple of months for sure.

We ended up with a group of 11 since a few others cancelled as well. We hit some major fog, but was only an issue at some of the cross streets. Riding on the road in these areas would have been a problem.
You certainly could have come alone. While looking for you in the parking area, another rider decided to join in for a while and stayed with us for the complete ride. We all stayed together for most of the ride, but the last 12 miles, some began to fall off and took an easier pace. We averaged 19 mph and finished at about 5 hr total including breaks.
If you want to try a different ride, we ride out of the same lot on Wed, Thurs evenings @ 6pm. This will probably be shifted to 5:45 the following week.

Next full Suncoast Trail ride is scheduled for Sunday, Nov 7th. Starting time and location is the same as before. Remember that DST ends on Nov 7th, so an extra hour of light in the morning. If there are any changes I'll give an update. Let me know if interested.

We are up to about 10 riders and as we get closer there should be more. We will likely have 2 speed groups.
