VA Creeper Trail Riders
Planning on a trip there when the warm weather comes back around. From what I can see from pictures,it looks like it may be some off road and some smooth trails. Is that right? Just trying to figure out what type of bike I would need since it would be used for off and on road. Thanks

I haven't ridden it, but I know it's not paved. It was an option on the Bike Virginia ride a couple of years ago. There is a bike shop in Damascus you could probably call to get some advice. They rent bikes also. A hybrid or cross bike should probably do fine.

It seemed most people opt to travel by bus to the top and have a mostly downhill run. I went with a non riding friend and so we opted not to do the entire Creeper. I did talked him into riding from Damascus to Whitetop. Very slight grade up to Whitetop, and you really can't coast back to Damascus, there is plenty of light pedaling involved. |
