The only one I've ridden (and I'm aware of ) is the Silver Comet Trail.

There are several PATH sites around Ga. The Acadia Mountain ride is very beautiful, if a bit short. There are some decent hills to climb there and be wary of the LOW speed limit that IS enforced by cycle and walking patrols.

Silver Comet is the only long one. It continues into Alabama as the Chief Ladiga Trail making an impressive 100 miles. It is wonderful. The path foundation trails are great and constantly expanding. A previous poster has guided you there.

The Big Creek Greenway trails are on their way to being about 35 miles from Roswell to Sawnee Mountain near Cumming. Currently there are two segments, one in Fulton County and one in Forsyth County. Each is 6-8 miles in length I think. The Forsyth County segment has a lot of boardwalk(wide and nice) going through wetlands and wet bottomland. High pressure road tires really rattle your bones on that segment. Hybrid tires are fine. These are worth a visit if you come exploring GA trails.

The only other paved trail not mentioned is the Short Line Trail at Tallulah Gorge State Park. It is very short, less than 2 miles, but scenic for sure.

There is the beginning of a coastal trail from Riceboro to St. Mary's. It will not be paved, but probably fine crushed stone surface. there is a segment open near Woodbine? of a couple of miles. It will be over 60 miles when finished.

Don’t let the Arabia Mountain Trail fool you, it’s not as short as one would think. I rode the main trail (out and back) Alexander Lake to just short of Stonecrest Mall, along with the South River, Flat Rock, and “Elem. School” spurs, this ride totaled 30.6 miles according to the cyclo-computer. It’s not a rail trail, so it has moderate hillsand switchbacks. Thinking of doubling up the spurs to get more mileage. The linked map is OK. The best map is on Google, go to the Arabia Mountain area map, and select "Bicycling" in the dropdown box to the right.

Thanks for the info and your help Ron and Sedges. Depending on my time, my plans are the Silver Comet Trail after I do a photo-op at the Murmur Trestle Bridge in Athens (This rail bridge built in 1883 over a creek was on the back cover of the early R.E.M. album Murmur. It has come to be known as the Murmur Trestle). However the Arabia Mountain Trail looks fantastic. Wow. I definitely want to do that one also very soon. Take care.

Ron since I am not a fan of directions and find it faster and easier to have an address and use Onstar, could I use Klondike Park as a trailhead for Arabia Mountain Trail? Is it a safe are? I know how crime has been for decades in Atlanta, so I don't want to be in a bad area, even in the day time. Thanks.

My favorite trailhead on the Arabia Mt. Trail is the Alexander Lake area. It is at the corner of Flat Bridge Road SW and Alexanders Lake Road SW. It does have a $5 parking fee but it’s a nice trailhead. Next best would be the South River Trailhead (Corner of Snapfinger Road and Panola Road) or the Nature Center (3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia, Georgia 30038). I consider most of the trail to be safe. The very last portion of the trail (past the intersection of Klondike Road and Mall Parkway) appears to be a rough neighborhood, I avoid it.

Ill agree with the Silver Comet Trail. I haven't biked it, but I have run on parts of it and it is breathtaking! All paved. It starts in Smyrna, Ga and runs 61 miles to the Alabama State line.

I went onto the Arabia Trailhead at the southernmost point, I think it is the Alexander Lake one mentioned above. It is nice, and we met an officer there both gearing up, and when we loaded up to leave. We passed a good number of cyclists, walkers, and joggers as well as one mounted (cycle) patrol..which is why I mentioned the speed limit. In spite of the proximity to a few sketchy areas in places, I feel that it is patrolled and frequented enough that problems should not be encountered. I have not read about anything on it in particular, where I actually have read of a small amount of trouble on the Silver Comet in the past (muggings).

The "riverwalk" trail there in Roswell is honestly too short and heavily trafficked to really enjoy as a "ride". It is fun, did it this past weekend, but there was no workout factor.

McQueen's Island Trail

I ride the https://www.traillink.com/trail/mcque...ric-trail.aspx when riding to Tybee Island. It is not paved per se, but is great for lite trail riding. Beautiful. On the marsh. Just watch out for fallen palm fronds.
