West Orange Trail In Florida

I believe this is one of the top trails in Florida. I ran out of time to ride very far, but was able to get these photos. I'll be back soon. See more at: https://www.trailviewmount.com

Florida's ARC council is reviewing the West Orange Mangement plan. You can comment if you'd like https://www.dep.state.fl.us/lands/SmPlan.htm

I have done about 10 miles (20 round trip) of this trail starting at the trail head in Oakland. Breaking for lunch in Winter Garden. I plan on doing the east leg of the trail over to Lake Minneola sometime in the near future. I live pretty close to this trail and think it is outstanding. At some point I will do the other end starting in Apopka. I have to build up my endurance before I take on the whole thing. I'm only up to about 25 to 30 miles at a time right now.

I heard Apopka is not a safe place to ride. Most people stop and turn around before reaching Apopka due to hoodlums from low income areas there. See more of my photos at: https://www.trailviewmount.com

Just did the West Orange Trail again last weekend. This time I did it from the Winter Garden Trailhead to Clermont and then back. With a little off trail sightseeing it was right at about 33 miles. The trail west of the Oakland trailhead is somewhat hilly and is definitely a good workout on a hybrid. It is well worth the effort though. Next time I may rent a road bike just to see the difference.

I think the fear factor of the South Apopka section of the West Orange Trail is over rated. Would I let my wife ride alone in that section? No! Do I have concern for my own safety? No more in that section of the trail than many other areas that I have been in and ridden in my lifetime. Crime used to be a problem but the Apopka Police Dept has placed a great deal of emphasis in that area. If anyone is concerned, just ride with a couple of friends, you will not have any problems.
