Staunton to Lexington VIRGINIA

Does anyone have a route from Staunton, VA to Lexington, VA?
I was wondering if there were some better ways to ride than Route 11 or if it was the best way.

thanks for any help anyone would like to provide.

Just based on driving portions of it, I'd avoid biking on US 11 until you get into Lexington where portions are signed for bikes. A quick search (start - Staunton, VA, keyword Lexington) at ridewithgps.com turns up at least 2 possibilities: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1621604 and http://ridewithgps.com/routes/719840 Just looking at Google Maps, State Routes 252 and 39 would get you most of the way. Bicycle Route 76 goes through Lexington (I've seen signs in town) I think from Waynesboro. The other bike-mapping sites (mapmyride, bikely, garmin, strava) may have other routes folks have planned or ridden. I'd try contacting bike shops in nearby communities - Shennandoah Bikes in Harrisonburg (a bit north) may have suggestions. This link http://www.lexingtonvirginia.com/cycling.htm may be useful.

I did a quick search on ridewithgps.com:
Start location: staunton va
Is within: 10 miles
Length: any
Keyword: lexington

This turned up:
ridewithgps.com/routes/719840
(ks1g linked to it already.)

Riders can make routes for all kinds of purposes, so any particular route might not be the best choice. But this one looks reasonable, avoiding main roads. It's probably more climbing than staying on Rt 11, and more turns to navigate, but much less traffic, and perhaps more scenic.

254 (Beverly St) west out to 42, then take 42 to Goshen, then 39 to Lexington. This is a beautiful route as 42 is scenic and 39 through Goshen pass is very nice too. In fact 39 (Maury River Rd) is on the Tour de Valley route.

I've ridden from Staunton to Lexington a couple of times. You can stay on 252 to 39. Nice roads all the way. You can also take the backroads route that the Tour de Valley takes as neal mentions. That follows Glebe School, Summerdean, Walker Creek also down to 39.

Here's a route I did last fall that goes from Waynesboro, Staunton, Lexington, Buena Vista, and back on the Parkway:
