New FL rider
 

I introduced myself in the new member section and I figured I would do it here also. I just started biking again after a 20 year hiatus. I started on a electra townie and just switched to a giant roam so I can hit some light dirt trails. I'm in the Venice FL area.

Welcome to the forums.. Your not really in my neck of the woods (east of Gainesville here). Have fun hitting the trails although finding actual "dirt" can sometimes be hard here in FL... Most of the time I find SAND.... LOL But there are some good off road trails, if you don't mind a bit of sand...

Welcome to the forums. I guess I about half way between you and Jay. Not to far from the Crroom off road bike paths although I pretty much stick to the MUP - Withlacoochee Trail. Enjoy your new bike and your riding.

I'm a little closer to you. Welcome to BikeForums I've found it to be informative and entertaining. Most of my riding is on the road

Welcome to the forum. You should try the Legacy trail in Venice. Very nice ride, starts at the old train Depot downtown.

I'm way north of you but if you find any special trails down there let us know. I'm not past driving a couple or so hours to try something new and decent. I generally manage to try at least 1 new trail a month. mostly paved riding during the heat of summer though.

So far I've been mostly riding the legacy trail 10-12 miles at a time. I live next to Oscar Scherer State Park and taking the legacy trail down to Casperson's Beach and back is a nice ride. I wish there were some dirt trails around here, riding in the sand is truly a *****.

Welcome. I'll be a Florida newbie next week (we sold our house and are moving) but won't be anywhere near you. We'll be in *****assa for a while till we find the "perfect house". :rolleyes:
If you get the urge to try something new, head up to the Suncoast Trail or Withlacoochee Trail. :thumb:

Check out the Coastal Cruisers Bicycle Club (my former club). They have rides of all levels in the Venice/Port Charlotte/North Port area and are a great bunch of folks. http://www.coastalcruisers.net

Their annual 'big' ride is next weekend - the Pasta Bash. Great pasta dinner on Friday night and a metric century and/or shorter rides on Saturday. I drive down from Ocala every year to ride because the people are great, the food is great and the riding is FLAT.

Dave I'm in Sarasota. I ride the Legacy from time to time. Mostly I travel Florida shooting photos and videos to put on my website. I have two big trails left to do (Gainesville & Tallahassee) to do before I hopefully start going to Georgia. Stay safe.
