For those that ride the Withlachochee Bay trail/Inglis Island

Hubby and I decided to take the mountain bikes over to the Inglis Island Trail. We've been there many times and since it was a cooler day, we decided it might be a nice ride. We started where we normally do, near where all the horse trailers park and headed to the north end of the island. Made it past the primitive camping area and headed west. Nice ride to the north west corner of the island and then headed towards the spillway. Just as we past the spillway we were surprised to see ashalt in the distance. We finally figured out the that had paved a portion of the trail that will be the extension of the Withlachochee Bay Trail. We decided to follow it and it dead ended at the top of a hill. We walked past the large rocks they had placed at the end and saw the canal that separates the island from the new east portion of the Bay trail. Once they put the bridge in (not sure when that will be) this will be a really nice ride. It also looked like they were clearing land on the other side of the canal for possibly a park or parking. The new portion of the paved trail has some nice hills and goes through the middle of the island.Overall only about 6 miles around the island but very excited to see the new extension of the trail.

Thanks for the update. It looks like something doable in the next month or two.

OK I'm lost here. I've riden the Withlacoochee Bay Trail and the new extension east of Felburn trailhead. How do I get to this section mentioned here? Thanks.

here is the info on the Inglis Island Trails.
https://www.dep.state.fl.us/gwt/guide...ils/inglis.htm

this will show you a map where the trails are in relation to Felburn Park. The info does not tell about the new paved trails. Once you go over the dam (there's an area you can get through with a bike) you will see a sign
before you actually get on the island. If you look to the left, there is a paved trail that goes down and then turns to the right and goes through the forest part of the island. It comes out on just the other side of the new extension of the Felburn that ran east and dead ended. We like to take the mbs as there are other parts that are not paved. Hope it works out that you can check it out.
