Nokomis area

Grandma lives in Nokomis in the winter, and back here in OH during the summer. I went down last year in Feb for 5 days, rented a bike, and enjoyed the days off work. you guys have a beautiful area, and i LOVE how cyclist friendly the roads and area is.

She has decided the weekend she wants to come home to OH is the weekend of 5/4, and asked me to fly down and drive her back. Said I can come down a couple days early so I can ride a bit if I wanted, as if not riding is an option. HA.

So i'll probably try to fly in Wednesday night after work so I can get 2 solid days in thursday/friday, and drive her back saturday/sunday

Does anyone in the area know of any group rides during the week? I like to ride at 19-20 averages, but I'm open to anything. a couple 60-70+ mile rides would be awesome, as the next weekend i have a 2 day, 210 mile ride im doing, so it'd be a nice prep ride.

for a group ride, preferably something close to Nokomis I could ride to, unless someone else riding wants to hook me up with a ride. . i dont want to leave her without a car and i'm not gonna rent something for 2 days. the thursday ride, if it starts a little later in the morning, that would be great. i dont think im going to get in early enough wednesday night to get to the bike shop to pick up a rental, so i'll have to do it thursday morning when they open. their hours right now are listed as 930-6, but who knows if thats the same in the summer.

thanks for any responses

I know there is a shop in that area hosting rides, I have seen the markings on the road while riding the area. I had downloaded a cue sheet from them, but can't seem to find it now. Check out Terra Ceia while you are there. Should be a couple of miles North of you.

Good folks, good rides. Take a look at their ride schedule and give them a try.

Here's their regular Tuesday ride out of Nokomis:

8:30AM, meet at the Nokomis
Beach
parking lot at the end of Albee Road. Available ride leaders select
the route, pace and distance, and all rides include a breakfast stop mid-ride at
First Watch. Info: Mike Granick (941) 484-5717

I'm not flying in until Thursday

I'll try to get ahold of that group and see if there is anything else on Thursday. I see one at 830, but that's nearly 20 miles from where i'm staying, which i'd have no issue riding to, but if i can't get in to get a rental until thursday morning, it'll be hard to make that start time, unless the LBS is open super duper early.

I'm almost considering seeing if someone up my way has a case that i could rent and bring my bike down...that'll also depend on how much room grandma has in her car on the way home, if i'll be able to put a bike case in there.

Most of the bike shops here have one or two rides a week. And if not you can always just do the legacy trail/ venetian waterway.
Try These

anyone interested in getting some longer rides in on 5/2 or 5/3? I'd love to have at least 1 century in, but beggars can't be choosers ...i'll definitely be getting out for 50-60 solo if i cant find a group ride to get into

The shop i'm getting my rental from is not open until 9am, and I have to get back to Nokomis, so i'm hoping to be starting by 10-1030. i know its a little later than most group rides start (at least where im from in OH), but im trying to work with what i've got.

Friday i should be good with an earlier time as long as i can ride to the start from Nokomis.

Let me know whatcha got!
