Downtown Savannah Ride?

I'm off to a wedding this coming weekend (10/18-10/20) and am considering taking my road bike with me and finding a way to get in a ride of 20-30 miles on Sunday morning. Anyone have any suggestions on a route?

Our hotel is The Andaz Hotel on Barnard Street which I believe is just off the river/downtown area.

If I have to drive a short ways to start a good route I am open to that.

Thanks for your help,

Bob

I don't know what you consider a 'good route' and your tolerance for traffic but riding from that location to Skidaway Island is a nice ride. Be aware there is road construction at LaRoche Ave at Neva St. that makes it impassable (who knows? it may be finished this week) so taking Skidaway south to Ferguson would be the alternative.

Pull up a map. Look for Price St, 52nd, Delesseps, Skidaway, the Isle of Hope, Ferguson, Diamond Causeway (204 alt) to Skidaway. On Skidaway go past the Village and turn left on McWhorter. Nice long stretch with a diversion to Priest's Landing.

The Isle of Hope is a super nice ride along the Bluff Dr.

Pull up a map. PM if you have questions.

Also Perry Rubber Weekly Bicycle Rides | Perry Rubber Bike Shop has a map. Never done that. I would say my route is more scenic. I like tunnels of live oak and views of marsh more than urban grit, myself...

Enjoy your stay.

Excellent suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think this will be a fun ride...I plan to poke along and enjoy the sites. BTW, I assume all of these are paved roads? Would prefer to bring road bike, but could bring touring bike if I'll be on any gravel.

No gravel except a lane or two on the Isle of Hope if you decide to go there.

You're lucky, it seems we have had the temperature/ humidity break...

Look, its all flat. Avoid major thoroughfares and take side parallels and you'll be cool.

If you want gravel though, now that I think about it, the Bonaventure Cemetery is good...

Welcome to the Bonaventure Historical Society | Bonaventure Historical Society

And you might want to read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil before your ride...

I did my ride this morning under blue skies and temps in the high 60's. Had a bit I'd wind to contend with but overall the conditions were near ideal. I rode around downtown savannah for a while to get my bearing and hen set out on a southeasterly route. I ended up on the Isle of Hope and gt to see my fill of marshland and moss drape trees. Total miles was 35-40 and it was a memorable ride.

Thanks for the guidance...it was very helpful.

To thos of you who live in Savannah...I am jealous. It is a beautiful area. Hope to return soon

Thanks again,

Bob
