Just taking a guess. Southern is south of LA County or maybe south of Ventura County (includes Santa Barbara, not sure what county that is in). Somewhere between Monterey and SB, Central Coast, and above Monterey is Northern. Well, at least that's how I see the rides as advertised.

Geographically it is the Transverse Ranges that separate Southern California and the Central Californias. So while Santa Barbara and Ventura desperately don't want to be lumped in with LA, they are. You get through that tunnel in Gaviota, over San Marcos Pass, that's the Central Coast, drop down the Tejon Pass, that's the Central Valley. Along the coast, Central gives way to "Northern" at either tip of the broad horseshoe of Monterey Bay, mostly depending on local preference. Of course Northern California actually begins north of the Bay Area, despite what those people think. So on the coastal side of things go northward from the Russian River then swing back across to about Redding and that truly is Northern California. The Central Valley is the Central Valley from the Grapevine to about Red Bluff. The rest is desert high and low, the Sierra/Cascade front and the basin and range northeast.

About universally for commercial purposes southern is the Kern Co line south and the Owens Valley. The Owens is considered south because for 6 months or better out of the year there's no way to get there from the N Cal metro areas.

For non commercial purposes the Sierra is N Cal.

This seems wrong. What route do the N Cal Metro areas use "commercially" in the summer that is closed in the winter? Highway 120 thru Yosemite? Or from south to north Highways 108, 4, 88, or 50, all 2 lane twisty. Was unaware that you could not get to the Owens Valley via Interstate 80 and Highway 395, both of which are open all winter (with maybe minor exceptions during the worst snow storms). Think denizens of the Owens Valley likes to think of themselves as separate from the rest of California, referring to the area as the gateway to the Eastern Sierra.

Just going off of 10 years of dealing with sales representation contracts. Kern Co south, the Owens valley and Clark and Nye Co NV are almost universally considered to be in the S California sales territory. The rest of NV is usually lumped in with N Cal (not than other than Reno there's much there, unless you sell mining equipment)

Economically, politically and culturally you could split off a strip 25 -30 miles in from the coast and call it a different state from the rest. That's being proposed in several variations right now.

Geographically the Owens is N Cal (which is what I said) Politically and culturally it's New (east) California.

North of Ventura is Central California. North SF is Northern California. SF pretty much in its own world.
