San Diego - Rentals

Hi I am traveling to San Diego for business Mon, don't have to be at work till Tue staying just north of city but will have rental car I will be out of the airport before noon, any suggestions to rent and where to ride for the afternoon. I am traveling from the east coast so am looking for a scenic type fun ride. I am 58 commute 22 miles round trip here in the NE and ride both road and mountain in my free time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

bike revolution downtown san diego on 6th street is a good place for rentals. i believe they deliver as well.

some suggestions for road rides:

the ride up to cabrillo national monument ($5 bike entry fee with a challenging .7 mile climb up from the tidepools) along the spine of point loma is highly recommended
along with dropping down to the ocean to take in the sunset cliffs area by the ocean beach neighborhood. the views from cabrillo natl monument are the best of the
city of san diego and should not be missed.

downtown, a fun ride starts on 12th st and harbor dr and goes bayside behind the convention center heading north towards the airport. you can incorporate this ride into one
that passes the airport on the way to point loma and cabrillo national monument. or...you can head north up 5th st in the left hand side bike lane (??), make a right on upas st
and cruise into balboa park which is our "central park." the ride across the bridge into the heart of the park is memorable. panama 66 in the plaza de panama (right next
to the museum of art) has a decent selections of local craft beers if that is your thing.

riding north and back along the coast highway from the ucsd/la jolla area is another must-do. The ride up to the oceanside pier and back (about 40 miles) is quintessential coastal southern california.

have a great visit!

Thanks,

Riding in bike lanes is something I am not used to being from the Northeast. Looking forward to it.

awesome. then you should be good. there are consistent bike lanes for a majority of the routes i laid out. let me know if you need grub and grog recommendations along any of those routes.
