20 minute FTP test in Los Angeles

Hi, I'm Ronnie and new to this page. I am traveling in Los angeles this month and my coach suggested I do a new 20 minute FTP test. I don't know LA well enough to find a road where I can ride un-interrupted by traffic or traffic lights. any suggestions out there? I would need a stretch of 12-15km's
thank you, Ronnie

Functional Threshold Power: sounds like it should be on a trainer that's equipped with a watt meter.

LA is a huge place. Where are you staying? Do you have a way to transport your bike around town?

Just do it where you are now. No reason to wait until you get to LA.

Weird, edit wouldn't let me change it to all caps

I did a 20-minute FTP run this past Saturday and had a devil of a time finding an appropriate place. Since I live up in the desert, I finally settled on Willow Springs Road between Rosemond Blvd. and Tehachapi. It's a gentle but consistent grade, starts out at about 1% and works its way up to 3% by the end of the twenty minutes. One very short downhill which was part of the warmup, so it didn't come into play.

For flatter road, I'd go to SART, either upper or lower. Upper you can do any day of the week. Lower is best during a weekday when the general public usually don't use the trail.

p.s. My FTP is pretty pathetic and embarrassing. Really highlights my lack of mileage this year.

If you don't care if it's a mountain, you can always ride up GMR.

But in all seriousness, I second the motion to find a river trail - SGRT or SART would both work

I'ven't had much luck doing FTP tests on the road. Too many interruptions, too many little hills, too much stochasticity...

Do it on a trainer, or better yet, a set of rollers with the resistance fan.

Only my opinion of course. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
