Anyone done North American Cutoff from Black Canyon to Box Canyon, near Simi Valley?

Has anyone ridden North American Cutoff from Black Canyon to Box Canyon? Basically it's a very old road that goes from near Sage Park to Box Canyon. I see several Strava records from people that rode it; one hints at an unpleasant encounter with a local. Searching the web, I see there have been some controversies with local landowners -- one involved a huge illegal dumping project and another involved abused horses on a ranch there. Doesn't sound very inviting but I'm sure it would be a great route with awesome views. Can anyone tell me more? Thanks in advance.

Is that the one that dead ends into Rocketdyne? It's not really a different road. I don't think you'd have a problem. Been there plenty of times on my dual sport. You turn at the intersection basically.

There is another fire road that heads up the hill and dead ends - it's gated so I've never been up it.

Is that one of the 3 B's (Balcom, Black and Box)? I have only done Balcom from the South.

The one that dead ends into Rocketdyne, maybe you're thinking of Woolsey Canyon Road? That one comes into the intersection right at the Rocketdyne gate. N.A. Cutoff is a few hundred yards north of there, with an old rusty iron gate and a hand painted sign on a plank of wood or something. On the map I see there's a junction a little ways in, the right fork dead ends but the left fork is the one that goes through. In this Styrava map it's the long straight-ish one at the center bottom of his loop, that cuts upward at a 45 degree angle. http://www.strava.com/activities/55787019

Woolsey Canyon heads due east and leads into Box Canyon park, N.A. Cutoff heads northeast and hits Box Canyon at Bell Ranch Road.

BTW, I was wondering about Bell Ranch Road, too. Has anybody done that one? Any issues getting through?

A lot of interesting roads in that area, but many are semi or fully impassable for one reason or another, unfortunately!

I've been exploring this area a bit more and have spoken to some of the property owners on North American Cutoff and Bell Ranch Road. Unfortunately for us, they are strongly opposed to walkers or cyclists using these roads, and so those routes seem to be off limits for now. It's really too bad, because the combination of the two would allow a great route between Sage Ranch Park and Santa Susana State Historic Park. I've written to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, asking if they might be able to negotiate some sort of public access. In the meantime, I think that walkers or bikers attempting these roads might meet with a pretty unfriendly reception; I really wouldn't advise going around the fences at the end of those roads and trying to use them.
