2016 KOM & Double Century Training

Well it is that time of year again. Let post up all those crazy beautiful rides we have planned to get ready for the big events this year. I have some make up business that I did not complete last year so that goes on my plate this year. Alta Alpina was cancelled due to the forest fire and when it was rescheduled I was not able to get in the acclimatization in time, 7 passes and 180 miles 17,5000ft was all i was willing to muster. Then Everest Challenge course was a complete bust so I never did that (circuits around Lone Pine, with so many close great climbs). This year I was planning on riding the CTC Stage Race but it is not so "socal" as I thought it would be so I think I will pass. I also want to compete in HooDoo 500 as a two person team. I also dropped 20 lbs last year but gained about 8 back so the goal this year is another 10 lbs from my lowest last year. This year could be a little interesting (complicated) with all this snow and rain.

So here are my plans:
-Tour de Palm Springs
-Camino Real Double
-Southern Inyo Double
-Joshua Tree Double?
-Mulholland Challenge Double
-Breathless Agony
-Heartbreak Double
-Eastern Sierra Double
-Ride Around the Bear
-Alta Alpine Double
-Cool Breeze Double Metric
-Ojai Double Metric
-Mammoth Fall Century
-HooDoo 500
-Everest Challenge
-Grizzly Century?
-Bass Lake Double?

So if you got a ride coming up post it, maybe we can ride together. If you are getting a room, maybe we can split the costs. Lets take advantage of this community. Have fun and be safe.

I'm cutting back quite a bit for 2016. No double centuries at all, a few centuries.

From your list above the only rides I'm planning for sure at the Palm Springs Century and Breathles Agony.

Will for sure ride Tour de Big Bear (not on your list) and possibly Ride Around the Bear.

My only absolute, for sure, is going to be the Devil Mountain Double in a respectable time (I finished it last year on my recumbent ... though it was a death march). Second highest priority is probably SF Randonneur's Adventure Series (SFR Adventure Series) that I've wanted to do for years, though maybe it is a full super randonneuring series (Davis or SF or a mix) on the recumbent.

CTC Stage Race rides (the other two) would be a maybe. I've always wanted to ride on the coast north of San Simeon so that'd be a draw, but after riding up White Mountain solo last summer, the thought of doing it on a double is a lot of meh. Everest Challenge would be awesome (rode up Onion Valley Rd last summer as well), but given last years route was so terribad (no way I'd pay to ride that) not something I'll plan on.

Lots of friends are doing Climb to Kaiser, but I think I'd be inclined to ride Alta Alpina 8 again (same day).

And finally, a friend had suggested the 508 as a two-man recumbent team. I think that'd be cool. Early bird sign up closes sometime in April, so there is still plenty of time to decide. I anticipate I'd be in great shape for it though.

And lots of MTB'ing in the Sierras (Lake Tahoe'ish vicinity).

@Lesper4 (what happened to lesper 1 through 3) - that's just manly. Good job.

I know there are plenty of you who do doubles... I just can't comprehend that right now. Tip of the chapeau to you as well.

Another one in the books. It was a great ride till the last 50 or so miles. 25-30 mph winds then blowing sand all in the dark. But then we had a 30 mph tailwind to finish!

Two for one sort of. First KOM ride of the year combined with a double. https://www.strava.com/activities/542043703 Next double for me is Heartbreak.

Anyone else do the KOM? Next one is Breathless Agony on May 7th.
