Depends on which part of LB you're at. Down PCH Newport Coast (New Coast + Ridge Park) has some good climb. You'll have probably have headwind all day. The access road to PV can be a bit difficult.

I too have seen people doing that at Turnbull.

I'm not usually on Colima, except to get to Punta del Este after descending the east side of Turnbull Canyon.
The Honda guy is borderline harassment, with the door open in center of lane. Maybe a pretty good ticket/fine.
Did he make an aggressive pass to get ahead of you before stopping to get the photo?

So on Turnbull, we see a variety of Camera/Photography enthusiasts that choose cyclists as subjects, some with no regard for courtesy or ethics, or others displaying outright malice. Maybe some so deranged that they want a Snuff/Money shot.

Riding in this area demands a lot from a rider. Sixth sense & situational awareness is key. Multiple occupants with windows open is another bad sign.

Yeah, I ride to NPC regularly. That's still at least 20 miles, one way. Not what I consider close to LB.

Other than Signal Hills, I suppose NPC+Ridge Park/Vista Ridge and Palos Verdes are "closest" hills to LB. I just don't the surface roads from LB to PV. Weekend beach goers at PCH to NPC could be worse though.
