Wow horrible news to hear, but I always take the lane when riding down a certain street in my area that leads to a fwy entrance. I rather deal with the honking and fingers instead of getting cut off by some idiot going 60 trying to get on the fwy.

Perhaps lawsuits like this don't bode well for bike lanes. Designate a bike lane, and get sued. Nonetheless, safe path design needs to be considered.
Interesting story about the paramedics too, not being able to find major landmarks. So, now they have addresses/links for schools. What will happen when someone collapses in Walmart, and the customers don't know the street address?

FYI: Trying to give an objective response here to the soccer story. 9-1-1 services depend on address to dispatch fire/police/ambulance services. Back in 2010 a lot of the 9-1-1 services did not have the ability to identify call locations from cellphones (they can from landlines), and the operator would not have been able to see it like they can today. The services now track cellphones by GPS, so it would not be a problem (conspiracy theorists can start another thread on that topic in P&R if they want to!). IF you did not know the address, they wouldn't either unless they had an open computer to look it up, and then hope there were not multiple schools with the same name (L.A. is a big area!).
The freeway on ramp collision. I have one route I ride going across freeway on ramps and I always look back to see what's coming. I always play it conservative and stop if I even think the approaching vehicles are close enough. Benefit beyond not getting clobbered is its a 'hill' over the freeway, so I get a little extra workout if I've got to stop and restart!
