Feel free to come out and ride with Bicycle Club of Irvine as a guest. We have local rides Tuesday, Friday, Sat and Sunday.
BCI -- Bicycle Club of Irvine
There is lots of good riding along the coast, hills to the south and east, flat rides up the coast, the Santa Ana river trail, the Bayview, Back Bay and San Diego creek trails. Bayside and Pacific Coast Highway down coast to Dana Pt and points beyond is beautiful, but you do need to be comfortable in traffic.

Welp, fire up strava heat maps and check out where everybody's riding - there are tons of options if you're in newport.

Also, google maps with the bike path layer is good.
@jimincalif is your best bet for specific route guidance in that area but if you want something particular spell it out and somebody can help you with a route.

I live in Newport. Where are you staying? Call me immature, but I love to hit the oceanside bike path around 30th street and see how fast I can go because there is a RADAR that tells you your speed. the speed limit is 8 mph, but I usually get out there at sunrise, so it's safe to go fast. you can ride tens of miles on oceanside bike paths around here. it's really relaxing in the morning.

I would try to include a ride that turns up from the coastline and goes over over crystal cove and then head up into santiago canyon - its a popular route that includes some good vertical and scenery.

COnstruction started in Santiago Canyon a week ago, although all we saw yesterday were parked construction vehicles. It will probably get to where they only allow one lane of traffic at a time behind a pilot car, so it could be unpleasant on a bike.
