I just got email about their Fountain Valley store, closure.

But did not get anything about their Tustin Marketplace store.

I did see that they appeared to be one of the stores on the "cut" list on the website. The stores that are being cut are not allowing certain discounts or returns which appears to be a signal that they want to clean out the store. I'm just curious if there are any deals to be had? It would make sense to try and sell the inventory rather than move it to another store or warehouse. I'll let the Black Friday and weekend craziness pass and then take a trip over there on Monday. If I'm not mistaken they're going to remain open until the end of the year(?)

The PB store near my house (Long Beach Towne Center) is one of the ones staying open. I'd hate to see it close. It's very close to my house and quite convenient for buying parts and tools for those last minute unexpected repairs.

I bought my wife's first bike at the Fountain Valley store. That alone makes the place a bit special for me. Really sad to see it close.

That'll explain why they had so little clothing in stock when I was there a few weeks ago; the clothing racks on the second floor were very sparsely stocked. They sell a fingerless glove with a closed back that I love - lots of terry fabric on it, and they seem to fit me just right. About $17, $8 when on sale. Also their house brand 'Forte' tires are not too bad - noticeably heavy than other brands of the same size, but cheap and great for cruisers, commuters & beater bikes; my 'workout' bike has a 700x32 on it right now that's had no issues. Sad to see the place go, maybe they'll still sell the stuff online. There's another LBS two buildings over to the west (2 minute walk). They concentrate on the cruiser/BMX crowd, but they are also a Trek dealer.

Meh! Ontario closed months ago. Rarely went there, lousy selection (you want a white helmet or a white helmet?) and most clothes were thrift store quality.

If that's also the closure list it looks like they're completely abandoning the San Francisco Bay area.
Too bad about the Oxnard store. I'd been in there quite a few times over the years and it always seemed busy (midweek or weekend).

If anyone goes into the store over the weekend please report back if there are any actual deals going on. I'll be checking it out on Monday. There has been talk in other forums that if the store is in fact closing they may also be selling the tools and equipment in the store.

I remember the Fountain Valley shop when it was Supergo.

Me too! It was a very active and busy store. Some nice high end stuff there and tons of clothing. Performance had a small shop in an adjacent strip mall that looked like a kids bike store in comparison. After closing down Supergo they moved into their larger building and then dumbed them down. Damn shame.

Wow! I wasn't sure if any of you remembered the "old" PB store in that strip mall. I went there all the time. I remember them having Tommasinni frames and other high end stuff like that. It was always a big thrill to go to that store. They use to also have some pretty cool mailers/catalogs for that store. Now I'm starting to feel old, lol.

Yes, I remember the store manager, Sean Flynn at Supergo. After that, Sean opened the Surf City Cyclery, a Specialized store of some kind. Then after that closed down, Sean is now at Roam Cyclery in Westminster.

I got some amazing deals at Supergo! Dura Ace rear derailleurs for $64 no tax 4th of July sale. Still have one untouched sitting in my toolbox. Those were the days!

Actually I remember Performance being on the west side of the street and on the east side of the street before taking over Supergo.

Yes, it seems as though a lot of "brick and mortar" stores are folding due to a number of things...seems to me it has much to do with online sales, it is sad to me to see this happening.
We seem to lament when they are gone but do not patronize them much when they are here...I am guilty of this too.

I'd also noticed the Fountain Valley store didn't carry much in the way of beach cruiser and BMX bicycles, just road and MTB models, and its not that far from the beach. Neighboring Bicycle Discovery (just a short walk to the west on Warner) lives and dies on those, so does Jax in HB. Neither can the focus on selling Fuji-brand bicycles. And you have to admit that the shop was a little awkward to get into (parking was around the back and limited, too). The bankruptcy and debt swap were the major reasons for corporate problems, but they're compounded by not focusing each store on its market, rather than a one-size -fits all approach.

My "local" shop in Santa Rosa has avoided the chop. I might have a chance to stop in there this week.

If the Berkeley and SF stores are going to be liquidating stock, it might be worth a detour for me...

Was in Woodland Hills a week or two ago....seemed really quiet. Oxnard store had moved a few years ago. I had thought the better location would work okay.

I went down to the store this morning (Wednesday) and was there when they opened. They still had a lot of bikes, trainers, accessories, clothing etc. all over the place. Other than the "Up to 40% OFF" signs you wouldn't of known there was anything going on. Some items we completely gone, but other than that it looked like they still had a fair amount of stock on the shelves. Inside the store everything seemed to be marked down 30%. The only thing was that they were advertising their usual highest price and giving you 30% off from that. I didn't see any particularly great (or even good) deals. Maybe I'll go back in a couple of weeks and see if things have changed.

Well, per the other tread in these forums... all the stores are closing. It appears that the first list of stores will be open until the end of January and the remaining 62 stores until the end of February. It says they are liquidating the stores. I'm going to have to start dropping by the store every week or so and see if any good deals appear. I'll definitely buy a couple more pair of riding shorts since I like they way theirs fit.

If any of you are in the So Call stores and see some too good to be true deals please post them up.

My experience with these things is that it's rare to find a great deal on store closings. They announce 40% off full list in the first weeks, but never super discounts.

Before it was "Supergo", It was "Two Wheel Transit Authority". It was built as their flagship store in the 80's. Two Wheel Transit bought by Alan Goldsmith (Bikeology 1990) and turned into Supergo. Performance bike bought Supergo (2002). Bike Nashbar bought Performance Bike. ASE boughts Performance bike and Bike Nashbar (2016)... so the process continues.
