MTB lunch ride at Daley ranch/Escondido, 2 up, 2 down, mostly single tracks. No warm up to the switch back climb from the parking lot

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement and understanding. I do feel like I'm almost back 100% although I do admit when I approach a fence or a gate I slow down a little more than usual.

Took a wrong underpass after Mission Bay and ended up in the middle of 50 mph traffic merging on both sides of me

Gorgeous day yesterday for some gravel. I took the Niner to Diamond Valley Lake and had a great 24 mile loop around the lake.

Puttered around the local hills of Whittier, Hacienda Hgts and La Habra Hgts. I was able to try the Red-White Endurance Bibs for the first time. Good compression and the chamois lived up to its name. Tried Bag Balm for the first time also and no issues with abrasions like last week. That really sucked! .

61 miles and 6800 feet of climb.

finally got off my assets and back on the bike. 37-miler ne of jamul in an area i like to call the "skyline wilderness." kind of a poor man's, 33% of santa monica mtns here in san diego east county.
hit skyline truck trail (all paved), honey springs rd, lyons valley rd and mother grundy truck trail (very little pavť). decent amount of climbing. roads mixed...between a 7 all the way to a 10 for a few miles
on skyline tt. mother grundy tt vacillated between "this doesn't seem like a truck trail (8)" to "nice route decision, diphthong (2.5)." nice day tho...upper 60's-low 70's
with very little wind on a just after noontime start. all the smart kids were exiting the mtns as i was entering. typical. the little store "the post" along lyons valley rd approx 2 miles west of the
i-section/confluence of lyons valley/skyline/honey springs currently open every day 10am-7pm if you hafta score/resupply. fairly green already out there which adds a little more color.
a bit hazy out there but still nice views to the north along skyline tt.

Couple nice rides this weekend Fri. wound my way thru V Pk & Orange Hills down to Mason Park in Irvine & back.
Sat. headed for the hills up Brea Cyn over to Pathfinder then snuck into CAT7 territory up Sunrise & Saleroso to a SAG at Schabarum Park. Then back over the hill (whew) to East/West Rds. Stopped at my usual place at the gate of the old churchyard for a snack. As I was ready to clip in a group of cyclists passed by going my way so I joined in with them until we parted paths at Whittier Blvd where I headed east back on home. Had a nice chat with a few of them as we rode along but I mostly followed the guy with the music!!
Mister Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long! (sooo lonnnng..)

Saturday...Griffith Park-->Hansen Dam-->Kagel Canyon/Lopez Canyon loop-->Montrose. 61+ miles total. This is my longest ride since returning to the bike a little more than a year ago.

From the top of Kagel Canyon Road...

I saw your ride on my Strava FlyBy. Nice ride.

Never heard of Kagel Canyon, but I wanted to do a longer ride and not just Camp 9, and I thought it looked nice. Was not expecting that. Wow.

Iíve known about Kagel for years, but this was the first time Iíve ridden it. The final kick is 10-12% before you do a steep drop down Lopez Canyon. I would do it again.

I love climbing, so when I saw the descent at the Lopez Canyon junction, I just kept going up Kagel. The part by the cemetery is also very steep, much steeper than the rest. I then had to do that wall on Lopez Canyon.

I'm not a fan of climbing, but I seem to find myself doing climbing rides on regular occasion. It's been over 15 years since I did lower Big T. I need to get back there sometime soon.

36 miles with a couple of friends. Started in HB, rode down the Newport Beach peninsula and took the ferry to Balboa Island and then a trip around the Newport Back Bay. We returned the way we came, took the ferry back over to the peninsula and then home through the parking lots along PCH. Kind of a slow pace, besides there aren't really a lot of places to let loose in residential Newport Beach. It was a good day.

Did the Rose Bowl Retro ride loop yesterday to find out what it's like. Plan to join it on one of these upcoming scheduled Sundays. Mostly level with the gradual climb from Arcadia to Sierra Madre.

Got out early & got drizzled on a bit. Stopped at my shop to dry off & wait out the rain. Had a hot mug of veggie juice. Headed out when the clouds cleared @ 9 up the SGRT to & around the Santa Fe dam area & back. Didn't see one cyclist from the Foster Road bridge all the way to Arrow Hwy I guess no one wanted to get their bikes dirty! Crossed a few on the way back down. Ended up mostly sunny & not cold at all. Nice quartering/full tailwind last 15 miles or so too!

Looped around Fiesta Island. Always an interesting crowd between the right hooks. Today, a few confederate flags.

The loop of Rose Bowl-So Pasadena-Huntington Dr.-Sierra Madre has been the basis of a significant part of my riding since I became a roadie in the late '90s. Most often, the loop gets extended east to Duarte, Azusa, or Glendora, but the finishing climb to a refreshment stop in Sierra Madre is tradition for riders in the area.

Did a little climbing today. 25 miles with 3,445 ft of gain. Minimum 48 degrees but felt much colder on the descent.

Deer Creek Loop in Sanmos. 47 mi 4900 ft of climbing. Been doing more mountain biking of late and less road cycling. I have to admit, I bonked pretty hard on this ride. I think I need to stick to the mully loop.

Yesterday's ride ended up being not at all what I intended when I left the house. My first thought was to just roll some easy laps around the Rose Bowl loop and head home. However, the headwind on the uphill side made it a painfully boring grind. After 3 laps, I pulled the plug on that idea and headed south down Arroyo Dr towards So. Pasadena. Along the way, I decided to go somewhere off my usual beaten path, and typical rides, and kept rolling south down Figueroa through the Highland Park neighborhood (Note: Way too many lights on Figueroa. Find a different route.) When I hit the LA River, I hopped on the bike path that heads north towards Burbank adjacent to Griffith Park. That stretch was a long grind into the wind, but I got into a groove chasing someone a few hundred meters ahead who was rolling at almost exactly the same speed. At the end of the trail (Victory Blvd), I headed east through Burbank and Glendale before turning north on Verdugo for the long drag up into Montrose, and a nice downhill roll through La Canada back toward home. Also...I hate the wind.

You're very kind. I suspect the regulars on this thread would handled it much better than I did.
