Come on, Irvine!

Yesterday was the inaugural Ciclo Irvine, for which Irvine closed 1.66 miles of streets on Barranca Parkway and Harvard Avenue.

Today, NYC closed 40 miles of streets, bridges, and tunnel for the Five Borough Bike Tour.

Five Boro Bike Tour is today in NYC. See the route map and list of road closures. - CBS New York (cbsnews.com)

Hopefully we can do better next year!?

You'd have a hard time convincing me to go to a Ciclovia event in Irvine no matter what the distance. There's nothing really unique that I can think of in Irvine. Its all well-planned, generic-looking, cookie cutter housing tracts and shopping centers with generic business parks at either end to keep the riff-raff from Santa Ana/Costa Mesa and South Orange County at a distance. I always hated how the traffic stop lights were so well coordinated that you'd get stuck at every one no matter if on a bicycle of driving a vehicle. When I lived there and wanted to do anything I'd have to jump in my car and leave Nah. I'll pass. I moved out of there in the mid-1990s and don't miss it at all.

Yes, Irvine is boring, but does have good cycling infrastructure. I don't generally have issues with the traffic lights either in my car or on a bike.
