So, I just pulled the trigger on some goofy bars.

FSA Omega Compact SD bars...$40 from Competitive Cyclist. Maybe now I'll actually ride in the drops.

roadfix 12-26-07 12:54 PM

^^^ Now those look comfortable enough that even I can stay down in the drops a few minutes at a time...:D

Mo'Phat 12-26-07 01:00 PM

I hear ya. My saddle/bar position is super comfortable for hoods and tops riding, but the drops are murder on my lower back. Hopefully these, where the drop is about an inch and a half less than my current bars, will be a bit better.

Also, the transition from tops to hoods are supposed to be flatter, as these bars were "specifically designed" for the Shimano STI controls. So they say.

take some yoga classes or something, I heard that helps. The only thing that hinders me me going on the drops more is prolly my beer gut

Perhaps Mommy should change your diaper then...those Easton carbon bars are only about two years old.

Mo'Phat 12-26-07 03:30 PM

I can't eke out time in the day to ride, let alone take yoga classes. You keep your downward facing dog and sun salutations to yourself. One issue is flexibility, another is my massive quads, and still another is that I just don't like being in the drops all that much, and still another is my massive quads.

Had to end the year going big :D! I've been watching prices on SRMs and couldn't resist the 24% off from cbike.com.

Very nice. I would not get an integrated stem/bars personally, but those new Cinellis that cBike has look way too OCP to resist.

I'm not a big fan of integrated stem/bars, but those have some nice bling going on. I had to stop myself from putting a set of Zipp 303s in my shopping cart yesterday

Happytime 12-27-07 02:09 PM

Yup. Very bling. The black ones are nice, too.

Nice buy, OC roadie!

Three lightly used but custom-made Zipp 404's - dimpled and de-badged.
  • 24-hole front laced to Ultegra hub
  • 28-hole rear laced to Ultegra hub
  • 28-hole rear w/cassette body replaced with Surley fixer hub
  • Conti Sprinter Gatorskins on all three

By swapping the front QR wth an allen key axle this set works for the road or track.

^^^ Far out fixer wheels!!

Mo'Phat 12-28-07 02:02 PM

In what will probably be a futile attempt at home training during the 'not playing with my kids' hours, I used my Team Performance membership to get a set of rollers.

These ones:

Travel Trac Technique Pro Alloy rollers for $104

Coming soon to a thread near you: How to patch a hole in drywall roughly the shape of a bike and rider?

Also got cheapy tires for the above rollers, cheap sunglasses, cheap headlight, cheap chainring bolt holder thingamagig, cheap seat binder clamp, and cheap shorts for trainer use only.

Wkend_Warrior 12-28-07 08:30 PM

Nice set of wheels.
Where do you get all these kind of deals from? [this is not the first time I see ur posting with great toys! :)]

I have those. I haven't ridden them for more then 10 minutes in a session, but they really help with form.

A guy on fixedgearfever.com was selling these to pay for new toys he had planned - $1200 for the three. I come across way more deals than I have the funds to take advantage of. I have spent a bunch lately collecting stuff for the track. I'm afraid to count it all up. Suffice to say I've already blown my bike budget for the first half of 2008. :)

I never throw away parts that still work because you never know. ;)

Actually, I think that the SunTour Superbe Pro seatpost is still the best design ever.
