I was told that some people always join in the ride without being registered (they are public roads after all...). They then just return on a separate train (and obviously don't benefit from the support or food during the ride). Anyone doing that?

I'm in, this will be my second one, last year was my first. We did lose three riders from our group though, one with many broken bones and two others that don't want to end up that way.

I am under the impression that there will be a lot of "pirates" on this ride. It appears that the 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 5:20 PM Amtrak's out of San Diego still have seats available. I would recommend purchasing a reservation for your bicycle, if you choose to take the Amtrak back.
BTW, If you see someone with hokeyspokes on their front wheel, pedal up and say "Hi". I run hokeyspokes on my front wheel when I commute (e.g. goofball factor). I'm debating leaving them on for the ride; at least up to the first rest stop.

That's lame... I ride this route all the time. You just pack 3 or 4 energy bars. Get water and use the restroom in San Onofre park and before Torrey Pines! You can also stop at the Dana Point campgrounds and the park with the snack shack in Oceanside on Pacific Street.
There are plenty of places to refuel or release with out stealing...
BTW: I did this last year and wasn't happy with the support. I'm better supported by myself.

Anyone in SD doing this? I'm thinking about pleading with my wife to drop me off at the start and then just go. I've done the route south of Pendelton, but haven't ridden north. I'd be bandit riding, and I can carry enough water and fuel for the distance. Anyway, there's 3 slots on the bike rack if anyone else is interested.
