Beginner Socal Mountain Bike Ride

Who here would be interested in a casual/slow mountain bike ride in Socal********** I dont have a day/time or trail picked out yet, just trying to see who is interested and what their skill level is.

So post a reply if you might be interested and we can figure out the details soon!

I ride a hard-tail and prefer x-country. I'm intermediate-ish. But, if this is a beginner ride, perhaps it should be an easy fire-road type trail...?

I'm thinking MAYBE the Fullerton Loop or something along the lines of Chino Hills via Telegraph... Id like to do Aliso but you run out of the easy stuff too quick there.... Although if someones up for the challenge, we can head up Cholla and across to top of the world and come down Meadows...

I'm also up for suggestions... I always like to check out new trails I havent tried yet...

I'm fully rigid :D and I prefer fire roads and single tracks that are not too technical. I don't ride off road too often so it takes me a while for my body to get back into the off-roading mode.

Those are good ideas. Chino Hills might be better since it's more "scenic" and characterstic of mountain biking.

I wonder if people (presumably roadies) interested in trying mountain biking even have mountain bikes....?

Well I started out as a roadie(88-94) then got into mountain biking around 2002 and still am a MTB'er but as of Jan this year, I built myself another road bike and I'm just getting back into it.

I would love to have time to ride. About all I do is commute. But I would be interested in hearing what you suggest.

Fullerton Loop is epic ride. Not because it is particularly good, but because it is a mountain bike ride in a suburban setting, and because of the wide variety of trails/roads it covers.

BTW, tomorrow (the first Saturday of October) CORBA is offering the Introduction to Mountain Biking class at Malibu Creek State Park. I took this class several years ago; it is outstanding. I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm interested. My son has a MTB that might work for me but if not I'd consider renting one so I could participate. :)

I have 2 mountain bikes and another "loaner" being built so I may have one you can borrow...

This seems fun. I have a fully rigid, entry level mtb. My skill level is pure beginner though. I've only rode my mtb on easy park trails/fire roads. I took a beginner's mtb clinic once, and got bruises all over.

Let me know if/when you're planning an easy mtb ride. :)

If my GF doesn't go, her bike would be available for someone. It's a hard-tail stumpjumper, size small(?) - good for someone up to maybe 5'5".

Renting can be a bit expensive , but check with a specialized dealer as they have test bikes.

Check with Surf City Cyclery in Huntington Beach, if your close to HB.... They might have test bikes... Talk to Sean Flynn and see what they got...

Interested in whatever is being planned. I have a full suspension mtb and have been on many of the trails.

for the serious climbers there is always San Juan Creek up to the top of Modjeska and Santiago Peaks which is about 14.5 miles of uphill fire road, and then you get to come down!

I am interested, but am a total beginner...Have rode on dirt once..2 years ago..also did the Corba clinic 2 years ago...it was great, but I switched to a road bike not to long after
All I need to do is pull my slicks off and put the knobbys back on my mtb...

depending on where it is, I might be interested as well. I prefer fireroads and relatively easy singletrack although I'd definately be willing to push myself as I'm going to be trying to work on upgrading my skills!

To stem off, Huntingon Beach is a little far for me. If anyone is in the San Fernando Valley is interested, let me know and we can start a seperate thread. I used to MTB al the time, but stopped because I couldn't find anyone to ride with (for the same reason that guy was missing off Decker for 3 days). I know tons of easy or hard trails in the area, and don't mind just cruising. I need a reason to get my MTB out of my parents' house and in my apartment with the roadie.

Not suggesting a route for the ride but info for mtb'ers that might someday want to try another trail. CHWP, Claremont Hills Wilderness Park (base of Padua Hills/Mt Baldy area). Fire road trail that leads up to Potato Mtn. Ends up overlooking Mt Baldy Rd. Maybe 7-10 mile climb. Gets a bit tough a few miles up, loose terrain. But cool ride.

Some do the main loop and dh on the singletrack on the Marshall Cyn side towards San Dimas CYN.

I did it with a bud that said it would take 1/2 an hour to get there. We rode after work. By the time we got up, it was dark. The view was cool. LA to one side and the IE to the other. I could see for miles and miles and miiiiiles!:D

i would be interested in a ride wit chall. i'm a beginner, but i'm in decent shape so i could probably handle intermediate stuff. lemme know what you all decide...i'm around. i check the so cal forums daily.

so far it looks like Chino HIlls is winning for location and trail skill levels.... I just hope I can find someone that knows the trails there better than me!!! :) I know some but not all of them....
