bad luck
 

yes i know some of you have already heard my bike of less than a month was most heinously stolen. it is partially my fault and i admit that. i left it on the rack in a seedy shopping center with a cheap lock on it.

at any rate i just really want to get into a bike soon. i know this is not really the place to do this, and i know about craigslist, i'm going to post there too-but i am looking for a 40-60 dollar peice of crap to stay in shape on until i can save up for a new bike. mountain/hybrid/road-i am not too picky right now as long as its 20-22 inches and extremely cheap. if any one knows of anything please post here.

i would really like to try and stay local (i.e.) but will drive a ways if something good comes up. (i do plan to hit canoga park on sunday jsigone)

If you can wait less than a month, and save your sheckles...go to the SD Velodrome Swapmeet and get yourself a bike.

Damn that sux man!! Geez I hate bastards who do that GRRRRR. I have some XT MTB front and reard derailleur parts laying around I will give you. I also have a set of cheap wheels. Find a frame and I think we will almost have a complete bike.

What size in a roadbike lingo? in centimeters?

I have my TREK bruiser frame, fork, cranks, BB, seatpost and front Derailer. You can have it, it's on the porch collecting dust.

If you can get a cheap 24 speed full ridged bike and use it for doner parts, like the brakes, wheel and controls, you will be SET.

I have some low-end mtb components laying around as well. Shimano Alivio level of 1999-era, triple chainset (170mm I think; square tapered, but no BB), FD, RD, shifters, really cheap wheels and 8-speed cassette; for a 3x8->27-speed. Octico's are much higher grade though, but these may fill some gaps that Octico is missing. If you want any of these components, I'll need to off-load them to you or another BF member asap, since I'll be out-of-town very soon.

I can pick them up and group them w/ the parts I have and see what else is needed to check off the list for the complete bike. Where in SD are you?

I might have some crappy parts that could at least get you going... Saddle, pedals, old chain, maybe R. Derailler... I'll check.

Whatever parts you need to complete the buildup....please list. I have some mtb parts as well.

Hopefully I can hook up with Dave and see what parts he has and I can start building the bike up again. I need to check my old parts box to see what exactly I have.

Based on the parts Jeff listed, we're still missing:
- handlebar including grip & stem
- brake levers
- chain
- bb
- seat (& seatpost)

Parts I have that I haven't listed before because they're not very nice. Please substitute if you have better ones:
- brakes (ok, but the v.low quality rim brakes)
- pedals (metal platforms, a little rusted)

I have but not very usable:
- seat (from my C'dale roadie; it's bad enough for a roadie, so not good for a mtb)

Additional comment on my wheelset:
- the braking surface is not smooth at the "rim joint"

I'm pretty new at bike mech, so I don't really know how to gauge the condition of components. Jeff, if you can update the list once you get my bike parts, that will be good. Thanks! :)

I have a non-matching set of tires with lots of tread (Spec. Ground Control / Avenir). If you want clipless pedals, I have some SPD compatible Wellgos... if I can find them. Have a couple of cheap saddles. Exage 7 sp R. Derailler. Have a few old chains, but fitment will depend on gearing.

was $5 from Performance when they overtook the supergo store. I picked up 4 different sizes:D I'm using one and gave two away already

I think the SPD would be great, I know he just bought some new MTB shoes and pedals. But I'm sure the pedals were on the bike when the stupid theives took it. And we'll need one of those saddles.

octico has some 8speed stuff that will fit better on the bike.

I'm meeting up w/ Dave on Thursday so I can see what he has and keep the list updated

Wait I only have the shifters, but no levers. The are grip shifters ..meaning they don't have the levers. I also think I have some cables laying around. When I get home I will give complete list. How big is that frame? I think olean is like 6 feet tall.

I'm 6'2 and rode that bike fine. It's a jumping bike so the geometry has alot of head slack in it almost simular to his hardrock. Great for hauling butt downhill too, climbing was a bit tough but alot easier w/ the seat raised. I climbed up Snow Summit on that bike, so it's not impossible. The DH on that bike was a blast, the 120mm fork helps alot. Its a good all around bike, just don't expect to climb super fast w/ it.

Lets keep this thread going maybe we can get more stuff. We need to set a place and time pick stuff up. I have the tools to put it together,we can all meet at a park bring the tools and put a bike together for BF bud. Man that really just sux I remember when he got his bike.
