Dec 9th SF Valley to Rose Bowl Ride. Help me reach my goal for the year

I would like to ride form the Sherman Oaks area to Rose Bowl and back. I know there are many rides the same day, but I feel like repeating this route and welcome anyone who would like to join. No drop social ride. This is a medium difficulty ride of +- 45 miles roundtrip and some of it through traffic. Reply and I will put together a list.

The Riders:
Herbm
Scootcore
and me sshakari.

The weather:

The route:
Profile:

Map:

I did not know how to change an existing slip on the site. The only diffirence would be from start to Van Nuys and Chandler.

My last weeks ride to Rose Bowl
  • Meet:
Corner of Balboa and Victory in Encino, park at the park 'n ride/bus stop
  • Time:
    Between 8:00 and 8:30
  • Roll:
    8:30

Sounds like a fantastic ride but I will be attending the Planet Ultra Xmas Club Century that day starting in Calabasas at 8am.

I'd love to ride it in the following weeks however before year end.

Some suggestions on a meeting place:
- Corner of Balboa and Victory in Encino, park at the park 'n ride/bus stop
- Travel Town or the LA Zoo in Griffith Park

I can try to dig up the route slip, but they did a 50 something mile ride from Griffith Park to the Rose Bowl and back with the SFVBC a couple of months back. It was a nice route, except that the only climbing was reserved for the second half (but it wasn't much)

I am definitely up for a Saturday ride...
I would be leaving/meeting in the Burbank/Griffith Park area..

40 - 50 miles sounds good to me...

I don't mind some climbing, but I am slow uphill....

I'm slow up hills too. I'm tentatively doing a different group ride (38-45 miles) that starts at Griffith Park at 8:30, but if that falls through I'll join you guys.

Encino Park is good for me. Lets see if how much more interest we will get for this ride as I know there are many other rides for the same weekend.

Here is an old route slip I did for my ride 2 weeks ago. There was construction at the top of the hill and I had to go around Linda at the end.

Rose Bowl route slip

hehe, well ok I'm not terrible, but what Mark didn't tell you was that was after my second wind and that I was struggling up Sepulveda earlier in the ride. I think I hammered up Beverly Glen because I was desperate to keep my cadence above 50 in my 34/23. New cassette is on the way which should help me.

I'll see if I kept the route slip at home, but otherwise I don't know how to access the SFVBC archives. It started in Griffith Park and took the bike path down a ways, then near Occidental College before turning up to go through Pasadena, Glendale, and Burbank to come back to Griffith Park.

I did a solo 55ish mile ride from CSUN to Rose Bowl and back. I think it was a fun ride except the way back, the route suggested some really ****ty resedential street that had a stop sign after every 200ft with plenty of traffic that I had to stop for. Wasn't too bad from what I remember, let me see if I can find it.

I'll join you guys depending on when the start/end time is

Hopefully I'll be able to get the route to load this week, but I might still do the group ride out of Griffith. We'll see.

I don't have the route slip, but I did put the route on gmap-pedometer and kept the URL. The one I was on left from CSUN. Here it is:
https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=472074

There was some serious climbing in the first half though (miles 25-27), and the balance was the La Tuna Canyon segment. It was a great ride.
Actually just checked and the SFVBC has a Rose Bowl ride on Saturday as well, though the route is different from the last one. https://www.sfvbc.com/ride_pdfs/408.pdf

I take it you guys don't want to join that one(?)

That would be a great idea!

The route they did from Griffith Park was much different than either of yours. It spent more time in South Pasadena and did not use La Tuna, although I would have liked the La Tuna routes much better. I think I'm going to stick with the other group, though, because I wanted to check the club out and I don't think I can do more than their 38 miler anyway since I've been off the bike for about a week now.

Hmm....I can do some of that one also...but I would start from Burbank...I could meet at the top of La Tuna...I would probably need a head start anyway!!

A club called Different Spokes. They're a very "colorful" group and they're doing a ride starting at Griffith Park up La Tuna Canyon, with a longer option (I think making it 43 miles) up Linda.

I was just making sure folks were aware of it. Not trying to change anyone's plans. I'll try to ride with you guys on the original ride if folks are still doing it. Haven't seen many responses yet.
