SAN GABRIEL TRAIL RIDE REPORTS. Nothing yet?

OK, I'll start! I had a chane to meet a few members. All seemed very nice. Rode mostly with BitingDuck and MarkAJ. Cool guys. Mark tried to play the I'm an old guy trick, but he looked strong. At the end, I was actually happy that it ended as I was getting tired and he started looking fresh again. BitingD was nice and rode with us. But he looked like he could have dropped us like hot potatoes if he wanted.

Got to meet Luin, nice guy. Serge( I can't spell his forum name) Hung with Lsits before the rest of the group arrived at the park. Cool guy and now I know what his avatar is! And Cole, cool nice guy. Man, he had a truckload of stuff for the riders. I offered him a cuple of bux, but he wasn't aving it. Thanx, the bread was great. I'm not much of an eater, but I had to have seconds! Thanx a million buddy! And everybody! Makes me wanna do the stagecoach!

Herb was an extrememly nice guy. Just sad I didn't have more of a chance to ride with him and some of the others. Fixer was there and quite friendly and nice. I'm just happy I survived the ride! I too am getting old and cathing up to MarkAJ. Hey, it was real nice to meet you guys. Mark and BD.

Didn't I tell you my friend Sonny talks alot? I still can't figure out how he does that and rides so well!

We had about 10 people this morning....
It was cloudy and cool...we hit some rain on the way there, but nothing at the park...
We rolled about 8:45...and the groups started forming pretty quick...
BitingDuck , MarkAJ and Velodrome Phoenix when out fast and hot... the rest of us were hanging a little behind then...
Up the top of the Santa Fe Dam...pretty good pace...VP started to get tired...they were moving pretty fast...so I hung back with her...
On the way down the headwinds were pretty fierce....made it pretty tough to hang on...so VP and I got dropped pretty quickly...
But finally made it down to Seal Beach...
I just can't thanks Cole505 enough for taking the time to show up with tons of goodies and drinks...the warm zucchini bread was awesome!!!
Thank you so much...I wish you have let us give some $$ for everything you did...what a great guy! And he has a nice family as well!
We hung for a bit..VP needed some food and water pretty badly at that point...but she recovered nicely..and lsits and I ride with her on the way back...and nice having a good tailwind...
We made pretty good time on the way back!
Some drizzle, but nothing much....but the path was soaked so it looked like we missed a good downpour..
All in all a great ride...Renee did great up the front of the Santa Fe Dam..the is short but tough climb...jim did great also...and thanks for hanging with us Jim!!!

Hey Mr B...
It was pleasure to finally meet you....yeah..Mark is pretty good..he drops me all the time...and odnt let him get away with that old guy routine!!!
Sorry to hear you got flat on your new tire...I hate when that happens!!
Hope to ride with you agian very soon...and to meet the mrs!!

Fixer..you are just awesome on the fixie!!!
All in all a great ride with a great bunch of people....
Lewin great to see you..wish you could have ridden longer...next time!!
I hope someone from the lead group posts a report as well

Ride pix are here

Thanks everyone for coming out...and Cole for his sag support!!!

Oh, and yes, Herb is a sweetie!

Wasn't bad on the way to the beach. On the eturn, it drizzled hard at times. Enough to get wet and ruin my wax job on my bike, but nothing terrible. Only bad point for me was a flat about 10 miles from the end. New tire too. I think I went a lil too close to the gutter in a tunnel. Was being careful not to run into the others while braking in the water. Then picked up the lil #@#$$!

Oh thank YOU sweetie!!

some drizzle...but mainly wet roads...and chilly onthe way back...

Oh I forgot to post that on the way down...VP and I got some good showers in Long Beach... I stopped and put on my rain jacket....after a while I had ot take the sauna jacket off..and stuffed into windbreaker back pocket..but was too lazy to zip it...so when I get to the turn around I reach in the back and of course my jacket is not there...
Luckily..VP saw it and picked it up and had it for me..thanks Renee!!!

Well, it sounds like a successful ride even with a little rain! Nice pics and you all look like you held up well. I'll join on the next one as I do like that ride for a nice, no traffic run.

Great ride! Riding in drizzly weather was not bad at all.....as long as you were prepared.
Thank you Herb for putting this ride together and also a big thanks to Cole for supplying us with all the goodies in Seal Beach! That warm zuchinni bread hit the stop.
I knew all the regular riders today and also had the pleasure of meeting Sonny, a friend of Mr Beanz, who joined us part way.
No flats for me today but I had to stop for several phone calls from my shop which was experiencing plumbing problems this afternoon. I had to rush home to change immediately after the ride and run to my business to fix this problem.

Oh, and congratulations MrBeanz on your new grandchild!

Just dropping a line to thank everyone who joined on the ride today I hope everyone had as good time as me. Big thank you to Cole and his family for the snaks at Seal Beach. I look forward to riding with everyone again.

On the way back for short time George was riding behind me and I could hear him troubleshooting his plumbing problems. Dont know how he does it.

This was the most miles in a ride day for me which turned out to 76 as I missed the bridge on the way back and had to go around which added a few miles.

Congradulation to mr. Beanz on #6!!!

Originally, I wasn't sure if I should take the Bianchi or the Ibex, with fenders. One look outside this morning and I made up my mind: fenders it is. I think I made the right decision. Not too much rain for me on the way down, but a pretty unrelenting headwind. Not as bad as Stagecoach last year. I was in betwen the first and last groups, so I waited for Herb at the last street.

Thanks to Cole for the goodies at Seal Beach. Like everyone else said, the zuchinni (sp?) bread was great. Really hit the spot (or as Fixer would say, the stop )

The ride back was much faster than the ride down. There was either a tailwind or a crosswind which is much better than a headwind any day. The fenders paid for themselves on the way back. I stayed pretty dry. Even my toes didn't get too wet. They were cold at the end, but still fairly dry.

Congratulations to VP and Serge for completing personal bests. Renee was thinking about packing it in and taking the train home. She really showed her mettle (moxie?) by toughing out the ride. She is one tough cookie. I thought I was the last one in, but Serge came in a little after I did. Seems he forgot to make a turn at one of the bridges and rode a couple of miles before he realized his mistake and had to turn back. He ended up doing about 78 miles.

And congratulations to Mr. Beanz. The good thing about grand kids is you get to play with them, and when they need changing or feeding, you can just hand them off to their parents.

Bottom line, it was cold, wet, and windy. But as I told Herb, I don't think it was possible to have more fun. I've said it before and I'll say it again: BikeForums rides (and riders) are the best!

Jim

I'm finally getting online after running around shopping and getting other stuff done...

Had a great time, except for some of the wet bits-- Beanz and MarkAJ were a lot of fun to ride with (and Fixer, too, for a lot of the ride, but he dropped back a bit on the return trip). Lots of thanks to Cole for meeting us there with goodies, and especially the zucchini bread.

Herbm, thank you for putting this ride together. I enjoyed riding with all and seeing faces with names. (All though at my age I can not remember any.) I have ridden this route many times and don’t recall so much head wind on the leg to Seal Beach. I was never cold unless we stopped. When we were riding I felt just fine even if I never put on the rain jacket I carried the entire ride. I felt pretty strong for most of the ride, but than again you have not seen me climb. (Old guys peter out quickly.) Cole and family thank you for the SAG. I hope you make Stagecoach. Remember what I told you about an Out-and-Back. I have to go now and clean my bike from this ride. What a mess!

Yeah, and it's beautiful (if a bit cold) out this morning.
