GMR Night Ride?

Does anyone here ever do GMR after dark? I've been thinking it might be fun to go up and down GMR one evening (only GMR, I don't wanna play chicken with the motorcycles on Little GMR/East Fork).

Is it too dangerous to do alone?

Thanks.

If we can get a bunch of people on a not so freezing clear full moon night I'd be up for it.

John, where have you been?? That's our night ride that hasn't been happening due to Holiday stuff, but I plan to get it back up and running in January. It typically takes place on Wednesday nights. I hope you'll join.

EDIt: Oh, Lord, I'm a dumbass. I confused GMR with Griffith Park! Ooopsie... Yes, I'd be willing to do a GMR night ride for sure. In the meantime, come join on a GP night ride anyway!

I plan to make the Griffith Park ride once it starts up again, at least once!

You're crazy! Forecast has been showing some rain. We had a group of people go up in an unexpected rain. I think we were lucky to make it down in daylight. It was freezing!

We did the ride on a weekend with no rain in the forecast. It rained bigtime and snow covered the mtn right after we got down. I've heard mtn lions do some hiking up there once in a while too. Or do they only sleep at night?

I didn't think of the mountain lions, I was only thinking about the darkness, curves, and deer. Hmmm. When there was the lion attack in Orange County was the rider solo?

Oh, for cry eye. No mountain lion will bother us with lights on our bikes. Now, if your light goes out...well. I say, bring it on! That road would be a blast in the dark. We just have to plan when it's a little warmer.

The due was attacked alone. One lady attacked while riding with her friend. Lucky her friend was there to play tug-o-war with the lion.

Hey, Mr Beanz brought it up!

Actually, I had thought about doing GMR at night by myself and was only worried about hitting a deer (I'm a magnet for deer), missing a turn, or hitting some debris. Mountain lions, however, would add a little paranoia.

As a group, though, I wouldn't be concerned... I figure March would be a good time, still chilly and it gets dark between 7 and 8.

Yeah...NO! Are you crazy???? No. No. No. There will be no riding GMR alone - even you big, strong boys! A mtn lion for sure would take you out. Not to mention if you had some other ailment (you never know). So, no. Final word from Mother Mary. You'll just have to get a group together (of which I'll be a member) so that you have company in case something happens and you need help.

Today near the bottom of GMR a couple turned back when they saw 2 kitties cross the road. They didn't know if they were bobcats or cougars but they were afraid of Momma, so they split. I never saw any cats.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a wise idea to do it solo in the dark...

The lack of traffic is enticing, though, and it's soooo quiet just before GRR.

Years ago when it was opened to cars I saw bobcats on two different occasions, but they ran pretty quickly once they saw me.

Hey, I'm with you. I can't imagine anything more gorgeous than up there at night. But I must admit, I want some big strong men along to throw to the mtn lions as I make a fast escape! Just kidding! I swear...no, really...I mean it...

There were 3 litle Bambies on the way up today. They scared the heck out of me!

They scared me too! I actually almost stopped the bike. That is, obviously, until I realized what they were!

Oh and there was a tarantula on the way down in the middle of the road. Sucker was big!

Don't Men taste like chicken?

I would not want to ride up there at night - a multimile decent does not sound fun at night - I hate doing the 1 miler by my house on night rides!

I'm actually scared sometimes riding up GMR alone in the daytime. Once there was a group of about 4 guys all in camouflage(so I can't spell ) and bow and arrows! Some real serious mtn looking dudes. I was scared they were gonna pull a "Deliverance" on my azz! And I aint no Burt Reynolds!

Men taste like chicken? No, I would say that men taste more like....oh, sorry, off topic. Look it, speed demon, you'll ride it and you'll like it! Trust me GMR is not scary at all (with a big group!).

Maybe that's why they left you alone, not purty enough.

I've never seen Mtn Lions but have seen Bobcats a few times.. There was mention of a Bear sighting but that was closer to the Marshall Canyon area..
