Conejo New Year's Day Ride

Hi all,

The Conejo Valley Bike Club has posted a ride for Monday on their website. It begins at 9 am from the parking lot across from Jamba Juice at Agoura Road and Westlake Blvd.

Looks like the ride will head out towards Simi. I have no info as to how many riders will show up.

As my wife and daughter have gone up north to visit relatives, while I get to stay home and babysit the dog, it's not like I have a big New Year's Eve planned out so I'll be in bed early! Baring unforseen events, I'm planning on joining this one and will ride to the start from my house.

Post up if you can make it! (hey Adam, are you coming?) I'll be on a Giant OCR2, grey with a Bento Box. Likely will have on long sleeve jersey and red windbreaker.

Happy New Year everyone!

Sheldon

Have fun, Sheldon! I'm not going to be in bed until 1PM at the earliest (grumble...I HATE new years eve, even more so than Christmas - I'm becoming the ultimate Scroogette) and then joining VB on the AC ride (as far as we can make it). But you guys be safe out there as I hope all riders will! Happy NY to you, too!

Great ride Sheldon. The CVC crew was great... Was that a 'relaxed pace' as the websites route slip had mentioned ?

My average speed was just about 19mph over my 65 miles and I was usually in the back of the pack !

Wow, didn't realize we were flying quite that fast. After I broke off from you and Jim to head home, I took a more leisurely pace and showed about 16 when I got home. Either way, pretty amazing considering the amount of winds we were constantly fighting.

It was nice to have a big enough group that we could draft when needed (and for me drafting was definately needed!). At one point on Madera, I was out alone for a few minutes and battling. Suddenly I got passed by someone, jumped on his wheel and it was like being shot out of a cannon. Later I was out front pulling along Royal and it was hard work.

I've ridden with the group before and it was a slower paced ride. There are two CVC groups...I think this is the faster one!

Was fun meeting up with you. We'll have to do more rides. Did you get a total elevation climbed on your Garmin?

Sheldon

Total climb was ~+3200' ...

I guess the avg. speed was kicked up a bit higer due to the fast drafts down Valley Circle, etc of 35mph at times. Also I came down the Santa Susana Pass pretty fast, but that was a short distance.
