Why are Certain Threads Moved?
Okay, I'm now inviting any Mod who would like to comment to explain why certain threads are moved from So Cal. I received notice yesterday that my "Fluid on the Bike" Thread was moved to the Training/Nutrition forum. I put it in So Cal as an addition to the "on the bike food" thread that dealt predominantly with food/gels. Yet, the "fluid" thread was moved to Training/Nutrition (and I was told someone asked it to be moved) and not the other thread (not that I'm advocating that it should be. I feel neither thread should be moved).
So, going forward, since this region has formed a community (I think it's safe to say that now with the numerous rides that have and will take place as well as social get-togethers), ground rules should be explained. I was under the impression that we were no longer being monitored to ensure that we only stick to subjects related to southern cal (which is pretty much impossible) or bike related (in which case, I think fluids while riding is a valid thread topic). As I explained in an email back to the Mod who emailed me, when I post topics in this thread it is to get advice specifically from other so cal riders with whom I have ridden or may ride, and who understand the climate and rides in this area. If I want advice from all cyclists on Bike Forums, I go outside the So Cal regional forum (e.g. Road Cycling, Long Distance Cycling, etc.).
I've asked that the Fluid thread be returned to the So Cal region as well. I think it only fair given the numerous topics in this region, that my thread remain here as well.
So, is there someone who would like to weigh in?

hello
I have a feeling that someone has a 'thing' against you........just my gut feeling.
I agree this thread should stay here, for one, fluid intake in arrid SoCal region can be different from the rest of the country.

Actually, sounds like an intarweb vendetta. You crossed someone's fine line, methinks.

This is my thought too.

Not that it adds any weight, m.e. but I fully agree with you. I understand the process that occurred on this thread and respect that. However, I would rather the decision be the original poster's on where the thread exists rather than a viewer. As you said, if you wanted a broader reach, you would have posted it in Nutrition & Fitness yourself.
The definition of a community thread is tough. To some, it means a group of people that ride and socialize together talking about various things, bicycling and non-bicycling. To others, it has to specifically reference the community. I think of the SoCal as the former. If you look at the activity verses the other communities, it seems to be a formula that has worked.

I might have crossed someone's fine line, huh? The thread that was moved is about fluids on the bike and has nothing in it any of the puritans on here can get bent out of shape about. If it's a personal vendetta, then all the more reason the thread should be moved back. Otherwise, I'd like an explanation as to why other "nutrition" based threads are left over here untouched (again, I don't want either thread or any other threads moved). Joe? Jason? Any other Mod?
And if someone does have a problem with me, I'd challenge that member to act like an adult and take it up with me directly and personally or put me on your ignore list. Or perhaps, he/she can start his/her own thread on what he/she wants posted or not posted in So Cal. Might start an interesting discussion.

Mods like doing this alot. People want to keep threads, even biking threads within foo, because we trust eachother and enjoy eachothers company as a community. Mods still move things to general cycling, mtb, road forums, etc. It's annoying, it could just be that. Don't think anyone has it out for you. You're way too cool of a person, why would someone have a vendetta against you ME?

from someone outside of the so. cal community i can attest that some threads are clearly misplaced in here. when i view new posts i see all the new posts across the forum. sometimes i see a thread that entices me, and go to post in it, and i realize it's in the so. cal forum, or the 50+ forum, or some other subformum. i try to remain respectful and not post.
but, a lot of people are missing out on a lot of good information by burying themselves in subforums. i find this is an increasingly annoying part of bike forums in general.

Also, I think reporting a thread in which I'm actually not joking at all is incredibly odd, but so be it. Bottom line, and one I'm insistent on, is that IF MY THREAD IS MOVED BUT NOT OTHER SIMILAR THREADS, I'D LIKE AN EXPLANATION FROM A MOD, PLEASE.

M.E. You and I both know that we lust after each other and if we had our druthers, we'd do something about it. You'll find no ire from me. I love what you bring to SoCal, and it's something that I look forward to.
My opinion is this: I don't really go to the other forums now. I like getting advice or voicing my opinion to people I know or have the potential of meeting somewhere on the road...whether it be about cycling or sushi. I'd just rather talk about it with people from my neck 'o the woods.
I don't know why your thread was moved...It upsets me, as there's been hundreds of threads this week about many things OTHER than cycling, that have stayed right here.

So, sorry, I can't agree with you. Regional forums are an opportunity for riders in the same area to connect, and if you look at our average viewer number, it is roughly 35 viewers at any given time. We aren't excluding or taking away from the forum in any way, shape or form.

My opinion is that this thread should be moved to the "Tandem Cycling" board. I have PM'd the mods.
(even though I have no idea who the mods are...)
And I've never heard you be opinionated... well, except when you had an opinion that we were going to be riding in the dark last Saturday.

I am so easy going with this forum, that I'm not bothered by ANY thread ANYONE posts. IMHO, if you don't want to read it, DON'T. And I don't get this "certain topics go in certain areas" thing. Oh, and what I've bolded above - EXACTLY - right on!
I don't think it is anyone's business if I want to only stay in So Cal or if I only want to read FOO on any given day. It should be up to indivdual members.

Really - who cares about the other forums...? If there are enough knowlrdgeable people in one forum, why can't we ask questions exclusively in one forum?

Wait for a mod's response. Pm all the mods that are online right now. I understand how you feel. Breath in. Breath out.

The solution is to cross post. If the mods think it needs to be in another forum then add it there and leave the original alone.

No, no...Let me make this clear. I ACCUSED NO ONE OF HAVING A VENDETTA (SOMEONE ELSE SUGGESTED THAT) AND I CERTAINLY AM NOT IMPLYING A MOD HAS AN ISSUE.
But someone did ask for the thread to be moved. I doubt it was a Mod. And this thread is just to determine ground rules as I'd like to know for the future. And I think it fair that if I'm to follow those rules others should as well.

This same issue came up a few months ago where mods were moving threads from SoCal to other forums. Joe ended up stepping in and commenting that we were free to post about any topic as he felt it was working toward the community feel of the forum. Or something like that.
I can't find his post for some reason to back that up... but does anyone else remember that?
