Today's ride in the SM's

With the sun in my face, and a warmish morning for a change, I headed over to Agoura Cycles for the Sat ride. The group was small today, with just a handful of riders.

We pointed east and worked our way down to Calabasas in some pretty stiff breezes. Drafting was the order of the day but with a small group and all of us at different levels, it was fairly tough to stay together. I was getting blown around pretty good.

We re-grouped and followed Mulholland, turning out at 7 minute hill. What a nice dowhill that is. We banked left and right coming out once again at Mulholland.

Just a few blocks later, we turned left onto Stunt, a climb I've never done. The group splintered quickly (all 4 of us!). Thankfully the wind wasn't much of a factor on the way up. I was really feeling the climb in my legs, the 1st time I've been in the hills for a while. Geez, does this thing ever end?? Up, Up, Up....at the top we were rewarded with a fantastic view of the ocean and valley..well worth the effort. Nearly 4 miles about 1300 feet of vertical.

We retraced our steps and returned the same way however the wind going down Stunt was at times very gusty and difficult. I was getting blown all over the place and slowed down a bunch. At one spot, I had to pedal just to keep going downhill as I was getting fully blasted by a headwind.

At the bottom, we again re-joined Mulholland and continued towards home. At Las Virgenes, short of time, I cut out and worked my way in a fierce headwind to Agoura Road, oftentimes maxed out at 7 miles per hour.

When I reached my house 25 minutes later, I was at the edge of a bonk, shaky, tired and beat to death.

Total of 36 miles but really worn down by the wind.

Hope you all had a fine ride today!

Sounds like a challenging ride Sheldon! I'm eager to ride up in that area. :)

Wind was FIERCE today in SD too. My bike hopped about 6 inches sideways when I hit a bump on a descent. I was also hit by a tumbleweed:rolleyes::eek:

That's a great route, Sheldon. We are incredibly fortunate to have the SM mts so close by! I appreciate them more with every ride through them.

Hello Sheldon,

Sounds like a good route.

I rode about the same distance today and had about 500 ft of climbing. There was no wind at about 7:30a but by 8:00a the wind picked up and got continually worse until I got home. Watching my son's Little League game in the afternoon we kept getting "dust blasted" every time some moved on the dirt. :(

Glad to hear you made it home before you truly bonked.
