Tour de Santa B II - April 28th

The sequel to the first ride, with a route that will be a bit tampered with, so the route slip link below is there to give you an idea of what's in store. If you would like to join please respond in the this thread that you are in.

This route has been mapped very graciously by Mkadam68! Thank you!

His original post: https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...&postcount=183

Date: Saturday, April 28, 2007
Start: 7724 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91405
Meet: 6:30am
Roll: 7:00am SHARP
Miles: 103.43
Elevation: 6,335+ ft.

Link to Routeslip.com: https://www.routeslip.com/routes/18416

NEW Detailed Route slip: Tour de Santa B Route Slip.doc

Link to Amtrak's website for additional information: https://www.amtrak.com/servlet/Conten...mtrak/HomePage

About the ride: Rain cancels. The ride isn't too difficult so we may be up in time to take the early train back, but if not, there is a 7:00pm train out. We will make stops along the way to refuel, etc. and I will stop for a quick bite (real food) at some point. I'll try and determine actual stops along the route, but anyone wanting to join, please note that there will NOT be a SAG vehicle on this ride. It is self-support only, so please bring fuel, extra tubes, cash, etc. There will be plenty of places to stop along the way should anyone need to at any time. I will provide my cell phone to all of you at the beginning of the ride.

About the train: The Surfliner normally accommodates bikes. However, there is a risk that the bikes will have to be stored in the luggage car and/or we may have to pay additional fees ($15), but this is rare. I do want those of you coming to be aware, however, and not be shocked should that happen. There are two trains to choose from: 4:29pm departure and a 7:00pm departure. Also, there are stations along the route should anyone want to come back earlier (please go to the Amtrak website for details). I'm sure most of you ride with ID, but please be sure to on Saturday as you will need it to board Amtrak.

On Board for the Ride:
MErider1
JpConrad
Magicant
Ronjon
The Fixer
Scootcore
Awiner
DannoXYZ
Tbrown
Breesei
Spingineer
Cole505

Grasshopper

NOTE: Tour de Santa B III will be in June.

This is a ride I want to do however this date comes up 2 weeks before Cruising. I don't think I'm going to want to do this thing and then hit the full 6000'+ ride without much break. Hey, I don't get as much training time as some of you!

So, I can do SB, and one of the Metrics for Cruising, or perhaps hold off and do the June SB ride, which is what I'm leaning towards. Don't have anything planned for June at this point anyhow.

If it works out, I'll see if I can ride out and meet up with the April group for some local distance, maybe at one side or the other of SS Pass.

Hmm, century ride in 40 days with absolutely no fitness now....

I'll bring a 5' tow rope. Count me as a maybe also. I need to get off the couch and on the bike. I should know if I'm able to complete the ride by mid April.

Okay, because I'm neurotic on top of all my other lovable quirks (), I'm going to put this out to anyone signing up. This is NOT an EASY ride. If you are not used to riding 100 miles or used to climbing, please rethink April 28th until you are. (Tbrown, I've ridden with you and, yes, you can definitely knock this out).

And before any of you tell me to "kiss it" - I mean this genuinely for your own ride enjoyment and safety. I want everyone to join on every ride every day every second (just ask any of the guys who've ridden with me), but I'm realistic too and since I'm the organizer, I will fret over you terribly if you show up and feel like crap. If, however, you are rolling your eyes at me right now, then great! Sign up and join us addicts...um...I mean, riders.

shush, you...

By the way, I don't know people's skills, etc. - so, really, if you want to ride this ride, everyone is welcomed. I just want to present it as honestly as I can.

way way way too slow...to qualify for this ride, you have to be able to ride 100+ miles with 9K ft+ climbing in sub 5.

... Well, at least I crack myself up. I'm going to ignore you and add you to the list. You'd better bring me PayDay on the 28th.
