4/21 Ride Option, Latigo & Encinal

Doesn't appear to be any major rides this weekend. I'm riding with a friend of mine (she's not on the forum) this Saturday, thought I'd throw it out for anyone interested.

Here's the route:

Meet at Malibu Bluffs Park (across from Pepperdine on PCH) between 8 & 8:30, roll @8:45.

Route
- Head down PCH to Latigo Canyon.
- Climb Latigo to Kanan Dume.
- Kanan Dume back to PCH
- Meander down PCH to Encinal Canyon
- Climb Encinal to Mulholland (You can take Decker if you want a harder climb, they both meet at Mulholland)
- Descend Mulholland to PCH
- PCH back to Malibu Bluffs.

53 Miles, 5500 ft of climbing (So if you want a century, you're free to do it twice )

Bikely link:

https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...rom-Pepperdine

I don't think this section of PCH is too bad except sometimes the short bit through Zuma, and most of PCH will be going south, which is even better.

This will be a casual paced ride with multiple regroups. I'm no King of the Mountain and my friend is getting back into shape for Triathlons, so she's not used to these long climbs. Speaking of the climbs, they're long, but not terribly steep. (both avg 5-6%). There are multiple places to stop on PCH for refueling, restroom stops etc.

If you want to join for any/all of this, let me know.

Ron, I may join. I've got a climbing ride lined up for Sunday, though, so I may have to do a lighter load on Saturday. But that sounds like a great ride! And I'd be happy with the 53 miles!

You could cut Encinal and go up to Mulholland on PCH. That would take off quite a bit of elevation (and heck I may need to take that option anyway )

I already told Cali I can't do JT, George. I'm going broke with Hemet/Solvang/Butterfield, etc. this year. I can't afford another road trip this month and I had to choose. I chose Hemet to knock out TC. This coming weekend, I have to stick close to home (and eat Beany-weenies as I'm now on a budget!).

You're making it more and more attractive... By the way, I LOVE Latigo. It's a favorite of mine. It wouldn't hurt to get my butt back up it. But really, Ron, these days I'm barely inching up hills! Pathetic, I know, but the truth.

You mean like cup-o-noodles? In fact, am I correct to assume the JT ride isn't happening? I couldn't have made it as well anyway.....I need to stay close to home this weekend.

I forgot about JT. I never saw that it got past the "Any Interest" thread. I couldn't make it anyway as I can't afford to kill the whole weekend.

I think the problem has been the heavy ride season. Too many rides, too many trips!

Ooh, that's a nice route also. Stunt is a great climb.

Oh Bummer!!
This sounds like a GREAT ride, I would totally join, but I am already doing the Conquer the Canyons
Charity ride.
It is a short ride (25 miles) but the good thing is 100% of the proceeds goes to supporting autism!

No worries, this ride (and similar ones) will be repeated this summer since it gets too hot for me to play in the valley. Have fun on your ride, great cause!

I'm now not going to be able to make this. I'm going shopping, getting my nails done, getting a facial, cleaning my place and going out for dinner that day. Yup. I'M NOT CYCLING! (well, okay, maybe a few miles but close to home and just for a workout, but no all day thingy... ) You guys have fun and be safe out there!

No problem at all, I think you've earned a day off! I tell you, the week off my bike sucked, but I feel so much stronger because of it. Rest is a good thing!

Well, now my Sunday ride may fall through...sigh. So, I may switch back to riding Saturday. Can I let you know, Herb (without seeming ungrateful that you've invited me!?)
