I was hit by a car the other day

The short of it is that I was taken down by a car turning right into a driveway that I happened to be in front of. I'm pretty much fine--my knee was a little sore yesterday but it didn't slow me down much on the climbs and its more or less fine today. My bike is in worse shape; the wheels are trashed and the frame is questionable. I posted the full details on my blog.

So, the upside is that I may get a new bike out of it. Thinking of the new Scott Addict R3. Any opinions? Note that I will be paying the difference myself between the replacement value of my current bike (Giant TCR C3 w/Ksyrium SL) vs. whatever I end up getting.

If I classified a frame as 'questionable' after a crash, I'd trash the frame. I would never have full confidence to push it hard for fear of frame failure.

That Addict is a really nice bike.

So, I guess all it takes is running into a car, and I can get a new bike? Hmmm...

When I was hit 3 weeks ago I didn't go down. If I could cause accidents to upgrade by wishful thinking, it would have happened a long time ago!

With as much riding as you do, I guess that is going to happen, but I hope to NEVER be hit or crash (dream on, right?) Good to hear you were not badly injured and, yes, bikes are replaceable.

I've only been hit while commuting. Something about the time of day + number of cars on the road + routes taken increases the chance of being hit by quite a bit. Crashing is more annoying though because its nobody's fault but my own.

This is why I may never commute to where I work. Pity really since I only live 12 miles from my office, but those 12 miles scare me since there is no way to get to/from my buliding without being in heavy traffic at some point along the route. Be careful out there.

After I was hit by a car I went to a shop to determine the value of my bike at the time of the crash. The owner said "Which bike do you want?" I pointed at a s Specialized Roubaix Comp. He wrote down $3000 as the value of my bike at the time of the crash. My lawyer got me the check and I got the bike.

Glad you're ok and glad you were able to get a loaner to keep those miles adding to bikejournal

I've heard great things about the Scott bikes, but then again, I hear great things about lots of bikes. Good luck with the new toy no matter what you wind up with.

She is doing the half Vineman and then going back to the Arizona IM next year. I didn't realize there was one in Vegas...

Alright, so that's where I would go, but still...

Yes, Times are little rich for my blood. I know the place and the guys there. I rode with one of them over Memorial Weekend... ANyway, went to get my bike looked at and the verdict was that the frame was OK. I rode it and it felt ok... just need new wheels and bars. Got the Ksyrium ES to replace my SLs, and a new SRAM Force group while I'm at it.

Commuting in traffic is an art form. You have to use many different brushes while creating your way through the masses.

I try and avoid that place, every time I go in there I get so jealous. The bikes are amazingly beautiful, but cost so much... I lifted one of the most expensive bikes in there and hardly felt its weight at all. If only...

Sorry to hear about the wreck. I've been hit so many times, I've lost count! At least you end up with nice new bike parts!
