Bibs Versus Shorts in So Cal

Why bibs? I was just given a pair but with the rides I do out here where restrooms are often hard to find and the lines long, a bib would be torture to get in and out of. Yet so many men I know prefer them. They say it holds their guts in, but so do shorts. I realize you guys have it a little easier than us women (we really do have to take them off!), but I still don't get it.

For me:
  1. Comfort (no draw-string cutting into my gut)
  2. No plumber tan-lines

Going to the potty is easy: just pull down from the top or pull up a leg

I don't like the waistbands of shorts digging in after a long ride. The Assos shorts don't have that problem, though. Now if their ladies bib shorts came with the adjustable strap that their knickers' have (it unhooks from the front and you can slip it over your head through the jersey collar) I'd be all over them.

They stay put and don't go slipping down. Also, no draw strings or elastic so they're more comfortable.

Mary, admit it. You have a habit of throwing off your clothes as fast as possible - and bib removal just isn't fast enough!

Some hold in the gut, I've never had a pair of shorts that hold in the gut.

I have no explanation, other than they're just more comfortable over long rides. It keeps the shorts pulled up better which cuts back on saddle sores for me.

The main purpose of Bib shorts is to keep the chamois snug up against the crotch.

If your chamois moves around, even a little it isn;t doing you any good and can/will cause sorness, chafing, etc.

Bibs are simply waaaayyy more comfortable on any ride - long or short. I seldom ride longer than 3 or 4 hours, I don't have a "bierbauch" but all my shorts are bibs, I don't even own regular ones. As for some natural needs - learn from the Man himself.

Sigh...exactly HOW am I to learn from the "the man?" I'd fall over the side if I tried that.

I don't think it's supposed to go over your head. But you could start a fashion trend.

Oh. That looks frightening. Nah, I'd rather just tell the boys not to look and squat, thank you very much. (which I have done many times, might I add)

Score another for bibs. No waistband cutting into your bloated belly after stopping for tacos.

I hate it when the front of the shorts roll down below my gut.

Bibs all the way.

I've been thinking of sewing in some simple plastic buckles on the front two straps, like the kind on our helmets. I was going to experiment on some old bibs, but I had already thrown them out, for the sake of guys riding behind me. That would sure make it easier for the times when you just have to sit down though.

I just got my first pair of bib shorts...Performance Ultras. I really like the regular Ultra shorts. I've never had a problem with shorts but as these were on sale, I thought I would try them out and see what all of the fuss is about.

As to the bibs, well, the first ride sucked..it was very hot outside and when I stopped, my back was totally soaked. Hated them. Saturday, I used them for the Cambria event where the weather was much cooler and had a better experience. Pretty comfy, no worries and a minimum of "adjusting" needed.

As to watering the plants, uh.....I found what worked for me was rolling up the leg and kinda...well...you know!

Because I was wearing bibs for the LA River ride I had a PB. I would not have attempted this feat if it were not for the bibs and long potty lines. However, if you read my thread I did take a little heat from the spousal unit for changing the air quality at home.

I can't even wear shorts on the trainer; I hate the waist band.
