Wanted...
I know this should be in the classifieds, but I want to buy local...
I need a 9 speed Dura Ace front DOUBLE brifter in excellent condition... If you only have the set, let me know what you want for them...
Mine is sort of hanging up when I shift... the release paddle to go from the big ring to the smaller seems to be hanging up and pushing the brake lever inward when I shift... it seems to shift ok when I hold the lever straight down and then push.....
Thanks in advanced....

You're funny. My rule is when my current components wear out, it's time to upgrade to 10 speed.

I have a set of DA 9 speed brifters I took off my ride (I put down tube shifters on). I would be willing to let them go for a great price but they are not in what you would call "excellent" condition. They have a few small paint chips towards the top of the shifter however they are in great working order (they have less than 300 miles on them). Let me know if you are interested.
If not, those shifters sell on ebay quite often (but new-in-box sets still get stupid high bids... ).

When these wear out eventually, I'm upgrading to 9 speed...

Neccros,
Tons and tons (OK maybe a half can) of WD40 or brake cleaner to flush out the Brifter. Its takes a lot to flush all the crud out. Once you have flush flushed and reflushed, then use LPS as a lube. You could also use a generic dry aerosol lubricant available at your LBS. But LPS in the teal colored can is better. Used by aviation mechanics everywhere. LPS generally available at Grainger and better hardware stores. Not available at the big orange box.
WD40 tends to attract dust and dirt, it does not dry but stays oily. WD40 works OK as a degreaser, not so hot as a dry film lubricant. Works well if you want to protect your chain while it sits over the winter.
NOTE TO SELF: This can get messy, remove front wheel first. And you might want to replace your bar tape afterwards (or as an excuse to replace your bar tape).
Let us know if this brings you sucess! Inquiring minds want to know.

This answers my question, a combination brake/shifter.
I was thinking a bar end shifter. ( bar end, + shifter ) used to use those in the '70s
Brifter is a lame ass name, JMO though.

I think brifter is a bike forum slang term, I've not heard them called brifters elsewhere.

Sheldon Browns website:
Brifter:
A combination brake/shift lever, such as a Campagnolo Ergo or Shimano S.T.I. unit. This term was coined by Bruce Frech.
Sheldon has been using this term for quite some time.

Ok... to clear things up, this is my situation...
I bought a fairly cheap road frame with the goal to build an inexpensive bike when I didn't have the budget for a high dollar bike. But one goal was to find used 9 speed parts in as good of shape as possible, and I did...
I found a good deal on some Dura Ace shifters and bought them. noticed the front shifter acting up a little, but it shifted ok... got the bike built about a year ago and rode it a few times but turns out I bought a frame that wasn't measured correctly and it was too big.
Recently bought a replacement frame and swapped the parts over and decided I want to replace the front shifter to eliminate the issue...
So please dont suggest I "upgrade" to 10 speed, or tell me to use Campy... I strictly asked for someone selling a 9 speed shifter and if you dont have one or know who or where is selling one, then please dont respond to this thread... I *do* appreciate the fix suggestions, dont get me wrong...
Thank you

I had a cheapazz model of brifters at one time. A friend at the shop said I shold go with DA cause they can be rebuilt or overhauled unlike the low end models. Why not just go that way? May be cheaper.

didn't say new campy. Just campy. 8, 9, 10 spd is a matter of changing 1 part inside the shifter. If you can find some campy brifters cheap, you can put whatever cam you need in them. The jtek shiftmate just changes the pull ratio so that you can mix/match wheels/dérailleurs.
