Holiday Weekend Ride Reports

Anyone lucky enough to get out of town this weekend? Where did you ride and who did you ride with?

I'm down here in La Quinta, south of Palm Springs. Talk about heat. 118 the last time I looked. I was lucky enough to hook up with Debbie, aka "Shunddy", and her husband, Alan. They graciously invited me to join them on their Sunday ride, apbtly titled the "beat the heat ride".

We got an early start, 6am, and set out to a beautiful sunrise with the sun hiding for most of the ride behind a cloud bank, which kept the temps fairly mild, low to mid ninties for most of the ride. Debbie and Alan gave me a great tour of the area, and at a pretty darn good pace to boot. Great roads, no traffic, and awesome company, what a way to spend a Sunday morning. Even got in a quick sprint interval out running a fiesty farm dog. Finished off the ride around 10am, just as the sun started burning through the cloud cover, and got to meet a couple of Debbie and Alan's brood, a sweet bloodhound, and to my knowledge, the world's only hugging dog. I'll let Debbie tell you about her. If you've never ridden in this part of the world, do yourself a favor and come give it a whirl. Beautiful. You just might want to wait til fall or spring if you're heat adverse.

Thanks again to Debbie and Alan for a great ride, look forward to doing it again.

Thank you Sean, we had a great time too. As for the pace, we know who was setting it (wasn't me)

I did get a few pics:

I know it seems crazy, but believe me, 90 feels mild compared to 118.

I was down in Temecual with Markaj and our spouses at a friends house...
We did hook with Janb for 2 great rides Sat and Sunday
Had to leave at 7 to try to beat the heat both days.
Sat she took up thru Rainbow Cyn and then Rice Cyn...some nice shady areas in Rice....then we did the climb up Couser Cyn...thats a really nice climb..a bit tough, and it was getting hot...the occasional shade felt real good....at the top we decided to skip the ride up Lilac and 395, since it was more exposed to the sun...so we heading down Couser then up Rice...(it was much better going the other way)....then up Rainbow Cyn...
When we started down the Temecula side, we really got hit with the heat...so it was good we didnt add any extra milage...

Sunday, we met Janb again, this time was a little bit easier ride thru the Temecula wine country...we saw some really nice scenery...hot air balloons...vineyards....totally awesome...

Both days we pretty much beat the heat, then sat around our friends pool and enjoyed some cold margaritas!!

Thanks again Jan for the great rides!!!

There is some really great riding down there....nice roads, low traffic...very rural...a bit hilly buts that cools...even tho I think those who live there think its pretty flat...its not!!
