Competent road bike mechanics

Ok, so which LBS around Irvine have good mechanics? I have this weird clicking noise coming from BB. I can't replicate it on a trainer, and it happens late in to the ride. So I need a mechanic who will actually look at it, and not just spin the pedals doesn't hear the clicking and charge 40 bucks.

Go to the 909. Jack at Coates can fix anything. His dad has a good set of tools.

yes even I.

Step1: Determine the type of box the tandem can fit in
Step2: If no such box is available grab the tandem by the top tube
Step3: Proceed out of your garage
Step4: Place into trashcan
Step5: Have a beer and celebrate

While I don't know which shops have good mechanics, I can't imagine needing to go out to the
909 just to troubleshoot a noisy BB. Surf City Cyclery in HB has a good reputation. Or try Sheldon Brown's site for tips on identifying the noise. Might not be the BB.

Edge Cycle Sports in Laguna Woods. Corner of Moulton & Ridge Route behind the Jack-in-the-Box, next to Papa John's. Both Hank and Sean are very, very good. Tell them that Chris Jannuzzi sent you.

-or-

Cycle Care - 22706 Aspan (off Lake Forest). Juan is also very, very good.

Just a thought. It it doesn't happen on the trainer you might want to take a look at stuff on the front wheel. Sometimes rotational noises that appear to be coming from the BB can be from another rotating surface.

Thought #1) Spoke. Nipples that are dry or not tight can make a clicking noise as they rotate. Check the tension on all of them. Sometimes just a little turn back and forth will do it. This is also an issue that can be silent then appear.

Thought #2) Hub. The cartridge bearings on today's super wheels are cool but are often too small for the task and can go bad in the blink of an eye. You might have a bearing going. Who remembers the first generation of Velomax?...AGGGHHH!!

...BTW both thoughts brought to you by the school of hard knocks. I haven't visited a mechanic in over a decade after finally coming to the conclusion that there are a few really good ones and hundreds of loosers.

I once had a clicking noise from the front derailleur cable hitting the crank arm. It only happened in the granny gear.
