Cyclist Died in SD
Man, I see these guys riding the wrong way at night and thinking they're going to get hit. Sure enough, some guy was nailed last night on Black Mountain Road without lights.

Whoa:
1) No Lights 2) Wrong Way 3) Ran a red light I always get kind of worried about being one of the unfortunate ones, but the more I read about these incidents, the most I see how many mistakes were made on part of the cyclist, as opposed to freak accidents. (Makes me feel a little more safe as opposed to a target on the road) Anyway, it's still sad :( |
Whoever is at fault, it is still sad and a total waste.

I love riding at night but there's not a chance in hell you'd catch me blowing a red on the wrong side of the road with no lights! |
Not good news. I hate hearing that.

It's tragic that a life is lost. Even worst for the family in the car that have to live the rest of their life having killed someone.

I read somewhere that cycling is 1/4 as dangerous as riding in a car, when you go by hours spent doing the activity. I bet if you factored in stuff like riding the wrong way, riding with no lights, etc., it would be even safer than that.

Last night I was driving home on the PCH around 10:30pm. I saw two separate guys on bike between the California incline and Chataqua (where no cyclist should ever really be). They were both wearing black, had no rear tailight, no headlight, and neither could be seen til car headlights hit them.
I realized some time ago that some people feel they have so little to live for they just do stuff like this. |

[QUOTE=merider1;5311638]I disagree, Ron. I believe people honestly think "it won't happen to me." /QUOTE]

The paper identified the cyclist as a 30 year old migrant worker from Guatamala.
