Baldy - Saturday October 13th

I'm probably going to do Baldy on Saturday starting from the intersection of Mt Baldy Rd & Mills Ave in Claremont. The idea is to go to the lift (about 13 miles or so from the start), go back to the village for a Cinnamon Roll , head over GRR, descend GMR, and then either return via Foothill/Baseline, or possibly loop back up Hwy 39 to East Fork, Little GMR, GRR, and then back down Baldy. Would anyone be interested in joining me?

Sunrise is about 7 am, so I figure a 7:30 start would be good (arrive between 7 and 7:15).

Who's gonna show up...

roadfix?

That sounds good although I may start at Encanto and ride to Mt Baldy Road.

Do I have a choice?

Regardless, I'm in. Shorter route, as I have the Sunday ride to consider.

Well, that means I have no choice either. But shorter route, for sure. If it's just Happy and me cutting it short, I know the way. (i.e. don't let us stop you guys from looping all over that mountain if you so wish!)

I could be wrong . . . but I thought the cinnamon buns were on Sunday morning only.

In any case, I will try to join you all if I can figure out where we're meeting. Is there parking at the designated start location or should I park somewhere else and ride to the start?

Yeah, apparently they don't open until 11 on Saturday. Bummer.

Rick, here is a picture of the start. I put an arrow where a parking lot is. I assume it is OK to park there???

Thanks Thomson!

I'll Mapquest it and try to find my way there for the 7:30 AM start.

Or did we want to change it to Sunday so we can feast on the cinnamon buns? Those cinnamon buns and a cup of coffee . . . Wow, and what a great treat after the climb (and fuel for the ski-lifts bit).

Only problem with Sunday is there is a HUGE ride already scheduled. I am sure the ride organizer will have cinnamon buns.

I've been down Baldy Road but never gone up. I think I'm in on this ride, but the short route.

I think it will take me that long to get up to the lifts, John. I may get a hot, melt-in-my-mouth bun after all.

It's true. Last Saturday I was expecting that they'd be open but they were still closed (it was around 10:30 when we got there). It was freezing too, I only had arm warmers on and expected it to warm up but it never really did until we were already at the bottom. There's nothing like descending from the ski-lifts and having numb fingers from all that cold air!

I'm thinking of doing this ride, but starting from Encanto park.

Drafting off one another is about the same thing as drafting off a toothpick.

It is easy to find this lot.. take the 210 east from Pasadena.. 30 miles approx.. exit Baseline Road.. make a left turn.. you are now on Baseline.. 2nd light approx 3/4 mile is mills rd.. right turn.. you are now going towards the mountains.. 1 mile and there will be a stop sign. go through the stop sign and the lot is on the immediate right side..

That's what I'm trying to see, if they're planning on crossing GRR to meet us, or leaving early from Encanto and riding over Baseline to start with us in Claremont.
