Tour de Santa Barbara
I have never done this route and am looking for something new. Riding to San Diego is getting old. This is my October century. I plan to take Amtrak to Glendale and ride home or to Union and take the Gold Line home.
The following is largely based on language written by merider1 from the Tour de Santa Barbara II ride. I hope she is okay with me stealing her work. Thanks you for all the information and inspiration to put this ride together, merider1, Mkadam68, and Happytime. Please note this ride will start at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and not the original Van Nuys location. If you would like to join please respond in the this thread that you are in.
This route has been mapped very graciously by Mkadam68! Thank you! I created a second route from the Rose Bowl to Mkadam68 route.
Additional details on past events can be found here, Event I, Event II, and Event III. The only variation to the previous route is that I plan to start at the Rose Bowl as I live just down the street.
Date: Saturday, October 27, 2007
Start: Rose Bowl Lot K (south west of Bowl, corner of West Dr. and Mountain Ave.)
Meet: 6:30am
Roll: 7:00am SHARP
Miles: 124.13 (give or take )
Elevation: 7,907+ ft.

About the ride: Fires cancel. We will make stops along the way to refuel, etc. Anyone wanting to join, please note that there will NOT be a SAG vehicle on this ride. It is self-support only, so please bring fuel, extra tubes, cash, etc. There will be plenty of places to stop along the way should anyone need to at any time. I have a huge PDA phone and tend not to bring it on rides. Others can exchange cell phone numbers at the beginning of the ride. I may borrow my wife's phone for the ride.
About the train: The Surfliner normally accommodates bikes. However, there is a risk that the bikes will have to be stored in the luggage car and/or we may have to pay additional fees ($15), but this is rare. I do want those of you coming to be aware, however, and not be shocked should that happen. There are two trains to choose from: 4:29pm departure and a 7:00pm departure. Also, there are stations along the route should anyone want to come back earlier (please go to the Amtrak website for details). I'm sure most of you ride with ID, but please be sure to on Saturday as you will need it to board Amtrak.

Mtbmaven, I have no issue whatsoever with you taking from my old thread and post! Please do! I love this ride, but I cannot do it that weekend. Plus, you added some miles!

This is a great ride for anyone looking for a moderately challenging ride .. I was part of the first two that we did and it does not disappoint.

hello
Like Adam, I too participated in the first two SB rides. This ride is far superior than riding down to San Diego. I would like to do it again, but not til early next year.

No..No.. I can take a hint. No one wants to ride with the new guy. J/K I am totally cool with riding alone but others feel free to join. I don't bite...at least since I got married.

It's not that. I WOULD join except I've made plans already (ones I'm looking forward to). It really is a great ride.

Ride is canceled due to the fires. I still need to get in my Oct. century so I will plan to ride from Pasadena to somewhere 100 miles down the road on Friday. If anyone wants to join let me know.
My plan is to leave Pasadena at 5:00 AM and ride to SD (again...) and take the train home. Smoke depending I will stop at Oceanside or turn around at the 50 mile mark.
I've done a century a month since February, I'm not letting a few fires stop me.

Damn! I'm having an engagement dinner that day! But the gang and I will be out on State St. in Halloween costumes that night!
