SART Ride Journal & Pics.......2008!!!!!!

Well 2008 and time for the stat of a new journal thread. I wasn't planning on doing it again but I think I'm hooked on the camera. What the heck, why not?

Jan 12th (Saturday) and Gina's first ride and first crashlanding! We had planned to ride with FT but he was unable to attend so we chose a different starting point. So I figure this is all his fault (just kidding!). We started from Lincoln for an ez 32 since Gina has been off for the holidays and a bit ill last week (flu stuff). We soft pedaled down to the HC restrooms for a quick stop and stretch. I arrived seconds before GIna and shouted,"careful". I came to a complete stop on the wet concrete at the water faucet. I look up and notice a friend standing there. I here a whishhhhhhPAH! as he shouts,"Gina!". I thought Gina had stopped on my right side so I replied,"yes it's us" as I look to my right but no Gina. Out of the corner of my eye, I look to the left, no Gina. WTF! He says,"NO, Gina" as he points down to my feet and starts to run over. I look down and there she is laying on the ground. We help her up, dusted her off and put her back on the bike. She's ok, a lil banged up but we continued with no serious damage. She found a bump or two so I offered to turn back. She said, "we've only gone a mile, let's keep going", so we did!

On the way to the coast I saw Ke_Jones2000 with another guy stuck on his wheel. I don't know who was with who or what cause there were a few other riders also present. I yelled out, "Kevin!" but he just ignored me like most other riders do!

Ran into Mad_One and LewisAClark at the coast stop where we talked and had a few laughs over Gina's spill. LAC headed out but Madone rode back with us most of the way. I lost track of him somewhere along the way as we ran into another group of riders. Gina said he was somewhere up ahead but I thought he stopped at the park with the other guys, so I rode back. Nope, no Mad_One so I had to head back and try to catch back up to Gina as she continued up the trail.

I was able to catch a few pics of Mad_one and Gina before he vanished into thin air!

We caught the tandem up the road so I rewarded Gina with a drink from her waterbottle. If we drop them, she can have another!Bwahahahaha!

Thanx, she is a trooper!

BTW, did we see you on the trail today? We encountered a guy that I thought might be you but wasn't on a Cannondale. I thought you rode a Cannondale? I said hi but wasn't sure.

Glad to hear you are alright, Gina and the bike is intact! Wish I could have joined you guys!

On the ride that is, not the hydroplaning!

Decided to ride ther trail instead of Baldy so that I could Get Gina back into shape. Maybe drag her along the B2B ride next week on the tandem. Sh's been on the bike maybe 5 times in the last couple of months, and it shows. Riding the tandem on the trail feels like climbing Baldy when the stoker aint with it! At the stop ran into LewisAClark. Just might have talked into the B2B ride too. Gotta keep Gina going. Today's tandem ride numbed my legs. I can't figure out why I'm sweating at the end of the ride and she's not!

Ran into LewisAClark

Gina at the Honda Center water fountain

Gina, lil mad cause the birds didn't show up to help her eat her Clif Bar!

Sunday (1-20) on the tandem. Actually felt better today and kept the same average as the previous day's ride. Ran into KeJones2000 at the beachstop. Rode back to Imperial with him. Good luck to the guy. His last day of riding for a while. He's having hip surgery on Tuesday, won't be back on for 3-4 months. Bummer after losing (if I recall correctly) 60 lbs!

Ha!

Thanks for the pics, Beanz. It must be fun to have a route where you run into friends almost every ride.

Yup, been doing the trail almost every weekend for the past 11 years. We run into buds that we've known since we started riding. Part of the fun is not worrying about cars, the rest is visiting friends!

Hey Gina & Beanz -

I saw you guys on the SART this monring (1-20-08). We were heading in opposite directions. Sorry I had to start so early today, but I had some other obligations to take care of . I have more fun when we run into each other on the trail and are able to ride together or at the very least have a good talk. Oh well, maybe next time. See you on the trail .

Yup, saw you Rob. Maybe my "wassup" is a bit too slow sometimes so the other rider doesn't hear me! Gina said, "Geez he's early". We're figuring you must start about 4 am!

Close! Up by 5am, out to the start point by 6:45 and on the trail by 7am. This time I started at that little park off La Palma. You know the one used to start from before I ran into you guys the first time. One thing is for sure, starting from the park really kick my behind. I gotta do it more often.

Hey Mad Dude. I used to start at the park but too many people there now. I did park there about a month ago. Was right after a big wind. Half the trees in the park were lying in the parkinglot. After that I said nope, don't want to return from a ride to find a tree on my truck. If I want extra miles, I'll ride PCH to Seal Beach or Main Street. Who knows, maybe I'll run into Bob Seger!

For extra miles, I'll try your route down PCH to seal. We'll see how it turns out

Sat Jan 26th. Thought it would rain so Gina stayed home. Took the mtb hoping the knobbies would keep me upright thru the water. Turned out to be a nice day. Don't think I need the breaker but if I hadn't taken it, it surely would have rained. Breezy and the breeze was in my favor to the beach. Ran into a paceline of roadies about 3 miles into the ride. Tried hard to catch the group of about 10. Closed the 200 yards down to about 50 when 2 of the riders fell of the back. I was about to catch them when another rider fell back and let them back in the draft. I hate when they do that! Chased them for 13 miles but never caught them. They pulled away a little more but oh well, I had a good workout. Averaged 18.4 to the coast on knobbie tires.

The return was a bit different. Fighting the breeze but was good fun working hard. Ended up with 32 miles at 16.3 average. Not bad for knobbies!

Did turn out to be a nice day didn't it. I bet SART was in pretty good shape since it's pretty well elevated above the channel's flow. Glad you had a good day Fred. Nice work pushng those nobbies. Ride'n the Mt. bike for a couple weeks should get you in shape for that new bike.

I love this picture, Fred! You better ride that bike if I ever get out there to ride with you and Gina. You need a handicap to ride with me...that would be perfect
