100+ mile rides this weekend
Wassup Party People...
Is anyone doing any rides in the Valley that are 100+ miles? I'm looking for some folks who'd be willing to do something like 110-115 miles. I live around Griffith Park, and usually roll out from there but I'll go else where for a meet up. I've got a couple routes in mind, but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks! If you are will to drive, group of use are doing a century around a "hill" look for the pie ride thread...

Hey. I live in the valley too. I'll be doing one of these, depending on the weather:

Hey there...Welcome!
Love the Jersey design on the blog. And that just about sums up my feelings about riding PCH, too. You know you can post and lead your own ride here? There probably would be several takers...if you are comfortable putting a route together and taking some responsibility for people. :) |
The SFVBC has a century starting at CSUN at 8:00. You don't have to be a member, just show up and ride. Check the SFVBC thread.

Well I was a mentor for TNT and a founding member of a cycling club, so I'm pretty comfortable with creating a route and being responsible for folks. I tend to ride the same routes, just with different variations. I'm trying to "Expand my Mind" a little bit if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the comment on the Jersey and blog! |

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I was recently shocked to find out they did a survey of motorists in areas where "Share the Road" signs are up. The majority thought it was meant as a warning for cyclists, not for motorists.

Don't get me started on that one! Oh, never mind, I'll keep it brief. This concern has been brought to the various committees that work on the standards for road sign. Hopefully they can come up with better wording that gets the intended meaning across.
But I could not convince a neighboring community to use it. They went with the Share the Road. |
I'll make sure to add that to my letter writing campaign. That's a really good point to bring up. Do you have any information on that study?
also, I think it has a lot to do with education. I remember drivers ed (15 years ago) we watched a film from the 60's. There was NO time spent on cycling/pedestrian/motorcycle awareness. |
Where is that sign from? I've heard they have those in Santa Cruz.
