For $10k as a first prize, Levi (or cyclists in general) is certainly not in it for the money... To finish 100+ miles in a 7-hr freezing downpour rainy condition (per day) definitely takes devotion and love for the sport.

Here are a few pics from the start and then I drove up to Mill Creek Summit, it was fricking cold up there. The wind chill made it feel like it was 10-20 degrees cooler.
Sorry for the size of the pics, I resized them in photobucket and they still display huge. Anyone know how to crop the width down?

I only wish there was some type of collaborative web site, where we could upload our photos, and we could see all the great photos in one place. They used to have Grassy Knoll that would do that, but none this year.

Hi,
A few from me:

My wife and Chris (from PAA -- no not bitingduck) waiting in the rain to do our course marshal thing. We were at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Berkshire Place.

Part of the break going past our marshal position. I was standing in front of a line of cars on Berkshire place when the race went by. The first car in line was limousine and the driver said that he had to pick someone up to go to the Kodak Theater (Academy Awards) -- oh well.

The Astana led peloton splashes down the hill.
Basically, my photos were pretty bad because it was so dark when the race came through. If they had been more on schedule it would have been less wet and I would have been able to get better shots.
Overall, it was a less than satisfying course marshal experience. I'll be sending some lesson-learned to the local organizers in Pasadena and the overal ToC organization.

Cleave, from the ones you posted, they're very good. The lack of light made you open up the lens which reduced the depth of field giving more perception of distance, rather than everything being tack sharp. That helps isolate the subject matter, basically your lead riders. Quite nice actually.

Thanks for the kind words.

I generally shoot long focal lengths at fairly wide apertures, but even wide open and at ISO 800 (not so good on my E-1), I was hand holding almost 500mm at 1/250 sec. The two shots that I posted were the only ones that were reasonably sharp. A lot of post processing in Photoshop to get what I got.
Of course, where I was standing, the race only went by once.

I understand completely. Long lenses compress the field inherently. I was just up the road at Commonwealth and Berkshire, so yes, you only get one chance.
