What is your favorite SoCal climb?

Question of the Day

What is your favorite SoCal climb?

Yeah, I know I missed quite a few, but I only had ten options....

Big T, actually, but Angeles Crest is close enough.

I may change my vote to Gibraltar once they repave it.

As much as I love the Angeles Forest (AC, Big T, Little T, Aliso), I can't get enough of the Santa Monica canyon roads. Stunt, Piuma, Latigo, Decker, Topanga, Las Flores, Encinal... it never ends. Between the diversity and the views, it's hard to beat.

Hwy 39 from Encanto past Crystal Lake to AC then on to Dawson Saddle. Just may do it on Saturday. Anyone interested?

They repaved part of the lower part, where it didn't need it . They've also repaved parts of East Camino Cielo. Most is still crappy though. I still picked it because its my local climb and I haven't done most of the others...

I picked Gibraltar only because climbing Gibraltar means I'm on vacation in Santa Barbara!

I think it is time I headed over there. I have avoided it for a few years now. Thanks for the update.

I haven't technically done any of those so I picked the fatbagging option. I guess the Mount Wilson is the closest but from Angeles Forest instead of AC. But then it's three or four climbs round trip.

Lessee...I've only ever done: 39 to East Fork, Little GMR/GMR/GRR, Topanga/Old Topanga, Angeles Crest (to Red Box), Little T, May Canyon, Rock Store climb, & Mulholland up from PCH. I vote: fatbagging.

I need to get out more.

Its better if you go up Gibraltar to go across ECC and down painted cave and old san marcos, so that you don't have to go down Gibrlatar... that's the part that sucks.

Gibraltar no doubt - 4 miles from my house I climb parts of it 4-5 days a week and NEVER get sick of it. Ocean views most of the way, great views into the canyons, and lot's of cool rock formations make it a visual treat, through the suffering.

Personally I hope they don't repave it. Repair pot holes yes, but repave it, no. If they did repave it more yahoos would bomb up and down the road making it much more dangerous for cyclists. The gnarly pavement gets them thinking twice.

I voted for Glendora Mtn Rd/Glendora Ridge Rd just because I haven't tried the other climbs. Besides I'm a flatlander...I suck at climbing!!

I'm with oc_rider; I'm not much of a climber, but when I do my favorite is Turnbull Canyon in... Whitter? Hacienda Heights? Somewhere up there.

I like the climb that goes from HB to Green River on the SART. 30 some odd miles with a total of 400' of elevation gain.

Rock Store.....first climb I really attempted. Not the steepest, or the longest. Just a short ride from my house.

Generally, also like lots of Mulholland....great views.

Baldy took my breath away the first time I climbed up there with Francis and friends. It still takes my breath away each and every time I make it to Cow Saddle.

I voted for Angeles Crest, but I haven't been up Baldy, GMR, Gibralter, or Mt. Pinos yet.

I agree with Sheldon that Rock Store is nice, but it is a little short to qualify as a major "climb"

I think Piuma should have been on the list, although AC would have still won my vote.

I voted "Other Santa Monica Mountains road" because I don't have a favorite climb but I have a favorite
place to climb and that's the Santa Monicas.
Right on my doorstep, available all year, I've ridden those roads for about 35 years and I'm not tired of them
yet.
