3/2 Bagel Ride Pics

I'm uploading pics now.

What a great group we had! Il bruto, Tombunn, IamTim, Weekend Warrior and Sally, Doppelg, a lurker and me. I won't say who the lurker was as it's my policy to not post real names of people unless they do it first on here. But I did warn him that if he didn't come out of lurker mode and get a handle that I would "out" him in a thread! Not really, but I do hope he now joins the forums and comes on future rides. The company was simply outstanding. No one was dropped, and I have to give a particular mention to Tom for his efforts today. He rode those hammered 72 miles yesterday and this was his recovery ride. Lucky for him, we dragged him on up St. Katherine's, which is no climb to sneeze at let me tell you! He did just great!! Way to go, Tom - I'm so glad you did that climb!

We had perfect weather today, and at the bagel shop, we were visited by celebrities, we posed for about 45 minutes in the sun, and then headed back.

I love this ride and hope to have one every month. It's a perfect balance and I hope more of you lurking will come out and meet us. If you are new to cycling, this is an excellent ride to come on*. The pace really was piano but not so relaxed that everyone didn't get a work out in. Those Canyons around the Rose Bowl have such beauty in them and are terribly under-rated (which is a good thing, I suppose, since it keeps the traffic out).

Really wonderful ride - thank you all for coming and to Il bruto, big kiss on the cheek!

*This ride does have traffic and is urban, so a rider must be comfortable riding in traffic and with other riders.

It was very, very fun and I'm going to have to start issuing eviction notices so I can move into all my houses up there.

About to depart for our bagel: Sally, Weekend Warrior, Lurkerlou, Tombunn, Doppelg, Il bruto and IamTim

Il bruto's new folding bike! How cool is that?

And in action

Tim trackstanding

Tom and Sally, all smiles

Lurker-soon-to-have-handle - so glad he joined!

Il bruto flying up the hill on those little bitty wheels!

I still can't get over that bike

Above the Bowl

The whole enchilada

nice in action shot

We can now smell the bagels!

Time to pose

And you all thought I was lying

The yummiest, wickedly delicious bagel of them all!

Couple pose.

Celebrity spotting number one. Jpconrad, recent racer, stopped by to say howdy.

Tim perfecting his pose.

Celebrity spotting numbers two and three. Stan and Vertical Bob, pushed off Tujunga due to high winds, stopped in for a quick bagel and to say hi.

Sally too!

Tom, moving on up, to the top...

The group catching their breath after that amazing climb...we worked off them there bagels!

The views, glorious views!

One more hill to go!

And the ultimate, winning pose of the day goes to...Doppelg!

Last but not least, I suckered Il bruto into jazzing up my stock dork shot! He makes me look good.

I know, huh? And he didn't even have to work it. It just came natural.

You guys went up St. Katherine's today? Damn ... I'm bummed. I missed it. That's one of my favorite rides. And what's funny is that when I do go up St. Katherine's, my route is probably identical to what you took on the Bagel ride. Oh well, next time, I hope.

Nice pix Mary. Sorry I wasn't able to join you guys. After I get my bike out of the shop, I'll join the next one. Perfect weather--looks like everyone had a great time.

He forgot it and his wife did too and were staying overnight in the area (which meant they would have had to driven a far distance to retrieve the helmets). They were very apologetic (not that they owned anyone an apology, mind you, but they normally wear helmets). I had an extra helmet and the gentleman immediately insisted his wife take it (chivalry is not dead, damn it!). But he normally always wears a helmet.

You know, Weekend Warrior told me they did one time! They are such a sweet couple. And seriously, she was happy to have a spare helmet to wear.

Yes, the home of the yummiest, most decadent bagel ever. That thing is evil. I split mine with Tom, though. Next time, I'm not sharing.

That's one reason to move back to SoCal ... they don't have Goldstein's in Bay Area. Not even one that comes close.

It looks like a Swallow to me.....unless it's a radically butchered B17 narrow.

And he may very well. Tom is very strong on the flats. He hung just fine yesterday for a long time (and like me, he eventually went his own pace). He also busted a move today on the flats and descents. He's stronger than he realizes...I saw that today at a particular point in the climb. He knows when that was.
