Red Box Rendezvous...with maybe Mr. Wilson too, Sunday, 3/9

Jpconrad, Doppelg and I were talking today about riding up to Red Box next weekend. I realized that I was off a week for Fargo and have next Sunday open. So, we're going to head up there and maybe even on up to Mt. Wilson Observatory too!

Here are details:

Route: Rose Bowl to Foothill to Angeles Crest to Red Box to Newcombs and then to the Mt. Wilson observatory and back
Meet: Street Parking in front of Descanso Gardens: https://www.mapquest.com/maps/1418+De...CA+91011-3102/?7:45am
Depart: 8:00am
Tempo: Jpconrad's coming, so that shoud tell you. Of course, I'm coming to, so....
Miles: approx. 40 - 50+ miles roundtrip
Elevation gain: TBD, but it's a good climb...actually, fantastic climb.
Stops: At least two - just prior climbing up for potty break and then Red Box, and a third at Newcombs Ranch for those who go there, and another at the Observatory at top of Mt. Wilson
Brunch: At Newcombs Ranch for those that head up
Lunch: For those who don't go to Newcombs Ranch...La Cabinita - best Mexican food!
Ride Level: Intermediate to Advanced (High winds expected!)
Route slip: Sorry, I don't have one.

Rendezvousing at Red Box...maybe with Mr. Wilson too

It's less than 40 round trip, I think, for the Rose Bowl to Red Box and back.

We can end up at King Taco, I'm sure, but I hope it's earlier than noon.

We've not met and you've not climbed with me....you're in for a treat. Just think of me as a way to force you to either pace or do repeats.

Just FYI, the flea market is March 9, and the traffic around the bowl gets pretty crazy on these Sundays.

Maybe we can then park up in the neighborhood above the bowl? Or can be park over where the tennis court is?

You can just park by the Shell station, or Descanso. Or that park in Alhambra.

Or, better yet, you could park out my way so that I don't have to leave really early!

Unless you're making breakfast, no.

How about by Descanso gardens? Not much of a warm up, but some and we miss the rose bowl mess. Plus, we can run on up to La Cabinita after for lunch.

Ok, it's about 20 miles to Wilson from there or 27 to Newcombs.

How about we ride Descansco to Newcombs, have breakfast and back to Red Box, up to Wilson, and then back down?

The mileage seems a little low, but is this more of a climbing ride? I've seen posts on hill training on AC, and "Mt Wilson" has a mountain as part of the name.
