He would just start screaming like a frightened little girl with one of those "B" movies screams and then the assailants would all fall over from laughter. THEN you can use him as a club and beat them to death.

Welcome to the bike internet, where every single post about an assault on a cyclist, without fail, devolves into an interminable, uninformed debate on gun control.

Was it uninformed? I don't know. I didn't read it. I was focusing on the use of Ovo as a weapon.

I've been in lounge and it was slow too. Maybe it's picked up?

What he meant was, if you don't think like him, you are uninformed. Typical of someone of his persuasion.

I am of the Scottish/Mexican persuasion. And yes, we all do think alike.

No, no. Ovo isn't waterproof and I'm not sure he'd fit in small, tight spaces.

Therefore...the gutter wouldn't be the appropriate place to put him or this thread.

You're talking about Ovo having a hard time fitting into your small, wet place, and you don't think this is in the gutter?

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Slice their heart out with his rapier wit? (Not to encourage Ovo, but sometimes I get a grin out of his posts )

I don't think that would be an effective weapon.

I say spoke 'em when they get close. If it's dark and you use a black spoke they'll walk right into it.
What a frightening story.

I'm really sorry to hear what happened to you. This is exactly the reason I don't ride paths. They are isolated and if something happens there won't be any witnesses nor could anybody help me.

I ride the main roads, I take the lane, I make myself visible!

I hope this will never happen to you again or to anybody. I don't think any "weapon" would help in this situation because these things happen too quick.

Stay out of the path and email Councilmember Rosendahl and Gruel about this incident and demand that they don't close more gates. They want to close more gates along the path to make it safer for the neighborhood (and trapping more people inside) instead of tearing all the gates down and making the path visible to everyone.

Rosendahl's email: councilman.rosendahl@lacity.org

Councilwoman Wendy Gruel email: councilmember.greuel@lacity.org

Be safe out there!

Sheldon,

I live about a mile from the arroyo path, so I head over there with the fixed or SS when I want a quick ten miles. I've never had any sort of incident on the path, even passing a group of teens going the other direction. I'm guessing the crowd you encountered were just hanging out and drinking, and didn't have any nefarious plans. Most of the time when I ride that path, I might see a half-dozen joggers and folks that look like they are commuting across town on their Kmart bikes. It's definitely a nice way to cruise and not have to worry about traffic (for the most part).

even though this whole gun thing got started as a joke im gonna weigh in....a very very long time ago i had the incredible misfortune to be pointing a loaded gun into the face a not very nice guy who was in the process of beating the hell out of my dad....lets just say to all the tough guy "kill em all and let god sort them out types" who have never even been CLOSE to this that it was easily the WORST experience of my life. it happened 20 years ago and i still think about it to this day. all that being said if people want guns, knock yerselves out, it IS your right(probably always will be...), at the same time please know that you never wanna point one at somebody and if the circumstance eer did come up youd be just as likely to shoot yourself, the guy in the house next to you, or a member of your own family as you would the other guy. gunslingers only exist in the realm of fiction, deal with it......

end rant, begin flame.

It's not killing someone over an ipod, it's defending your life. Agreed, killing over an ipod is dumb, but staying alive when you're being attacked isn't. He could've been killed, law enforcement only sorts stuff out after a crime. But hey, criminals know for the most part people are unarmed and an easy target.
